Discussion about
I just got my property tax bill from Southampton Town and it is a whopper: 15% higher than last year. And they are still assessing the "total value" of my house at the same value it was at two years ago. I think we can be certain that property values have declined quite a bit since two years ago! Is anyone else shocked at the tax bill? Do you think it's justified? Is anyone else going to pursue a grievance?

a lot has to due with: 1) rising deficits 2) costs are higher than expected for larger school enrollments

For example, the Springs had to pay EH an extra 800k because they had a higher school enrollment rate than normal...those funds came soley from incresed property taxes

and for property values, they are always years behind, so in 2007, they were propably assesing at 2004 levels

overall, for the values of the homes, property tax out east is still low

I filed a grievance a few months ago and haven't heard anything yet. Do you know for how long they're backlogged? Also, if you're not a year round resident, but pay property taxes out there, do you get to vote in local elections?
