Discussion about
Quick, who can tell me what's wrong with this picture. It was taken right after the huge snow storm: http://mta.info/news/stories/images/snow4.jpg ok, time's up. Here's what's wrong: Why isn't the MTA plowing the tracks with modern equipment? The MTA owns a special train with a jet engine that can blow away massive amounts of snow in seconds. Yet, silly management makes workers shovel the tracks by hand. Then they complain that the workers are absusing the overtime to pad their paychecks. You can't have it both ways... Where was the jet engine train? Was it in Disneyworld with Chris Christie?

Yes, a jet engine can blow a massive amount of snow in seconds, but unlike a person with a shovel, you cannot control very well where the snow lands. For the tracks pictured, the jet engine would blow the snow from one track to the other and onto the platform.

Probably the union contract promotes featherbedding. Think of all those guys with the shovels that will lose their jobs. Think of the union boss that gets kick backs from the firm supplying shovels.

You're right. They should have not shoveled the snow at all.

Then you'd REALLY have something to complain about.

Maybe the special MTA jet engine train was on the Port Jervis line and you took a picture of a station along the Ronkonkoma line. Or is there a jet engine train at every station, like there are people.

Also, since when does Chris Christie have anything to do with the MTA?
