Outrageous Assesment charges

I live in a new development in Hell's Kitchen. The self appointed board has been in a legal battle with the sponsor for 3 years. Now the board wants each unit owner to pay an additonal $300-700 per month for legal expenses and repairs. The board is not freely disclosing what these 'repairs' actually are. The additional money is added on to the common charges. This makes selling any unit impossible. Any ideas about what to do? Does anybody have a similar experience?
