Discussion about
help! does anyone have any experience or knowledge of how to get rid of two weeks of time shares at manhattan club? now that we have an apartment in the city we no longer need them but have to admit they were handy before. two rooms with two full baths and quite comfortable. we have tried craigs list and looked at alternate solicited proposals which all want money up front and no guarantees. friends have warned us that these never pan out so we haven't tried them. we would so appreciate any ideas you may have. thanks...

i can't really help you, but i would try ebay and not local craiglist. maybe amazon/craigslist international?

timeshares are pretty illiquid in this tight economy. I'd donate them to charity and take the tax benefit.

Thanks all for these suggestions and we will pursue them. Alanhart...we had never heard of this site and it looks quite informative. hubby is checking it out now. lucille...we have tried both of those options to no avail. Ali...we would love to donate them and have tried to do so but the charities do not want the annual costs involved.

What is the annual cost?

topper...annual cost is about $2000 per week for a total of $4000. two rooms (one configured with king and one with queen sleepsofa and mini kitchen/dining area) and two full baths. time can be used as a single day, multiple days or the full weeks. only holiday not covered is new years eve.

isn't the manhattan club in the rci timeshare pool. if it is in that pool or another one, you can just trade out the manhattan weeks for a couple of weeks of vacation in europe or elsewhere, no?

Exactly apt23 - they are RCI - and the Manhattan Club is often a tough one to book too - so I can imaging trading weeks here for elsewhere would be very easy. Just because you own in NYC now doesn't mean you can't use the weeks in hundreds of different locations around the world.
