State & City Employee Layoffs

I hope it's a lot for the sake of reducing deficit but my guess is less than 2%.

I suspect very few. The State and City budgets include many unfilled position. They can claim to eliminate positions that are unfilled and announce layoffs. In reality I suspect that very few people will lose their jobs. It is an accounting game (perhaps a legal ponzi) that inflates expenses without real expenses attach to them. It is also a way to justify increas in R.E taxes or any other Taxes. the only thing the State and City need to do is freez hiring and by attrition people resign and leave jobs and the budget is being "reduced"...

Dude's been in office for ~35 days, and the thing you're most upset about is that he hasn't fired tons of people yet?

So where are the layoffs??

Just as I thought no layoffs, somehow the money was found for state and city employees.

Is anyone suprised??

The NYS court system had several hundred laid off this year.

well, don't leave out thousands and thousands in attrition they're using to get the "savings".
Means jobs that won't be replaced, hits the same low end that layoffs would have hit.

Also means they probably have to pay MORE for those, in terms of pension sweetners and such for early retirement.

it's not true that there have been no layoffs, but if you want your stomach to turn, take a look at the incentive retirement plan that paid State workers higher pension payouts if they'd just get the hell out of their jobs finally - I for one do not see the savings, and can't help wishing retirement age employees would have been informed that they will either work for their pay or, if they don't feel like working, just retire - none of the people incentivized to retire were unable to retire without the incentive plan - just were given even more to go away
