Discussion about
Relocating to NYC from California in the fall and don't know where to begin to find a good school for our 7th grader. We are looking to buy a condo in the UWS or UES area, but our realtor needs to know some preferences re: schools so that she can fine tune our search. Any suggestions?

Schools are grouped into zones.
There is always a middle school in the zone which is the defalt school.
In district 2 (large part of UES) Wagner middle school is that school. You may prefer that your child attend another middle school in that district but, that would take an application and a new school year. In district 2 I would reccommend Eastside Middle, Salk and Clinton. Of those 3 only ESM is on the UES. Get on to the nyc.gov website and click toward edu. It's all there and you will be suprised on how you homework might be in vane.

Why are you stuck on public with a middle-schooler & high-schooler? Wouldn't it make just as much sense financially to go private and rent with the rent-buy ratio, especially if (it sounds like) you have one child?

Falcogold1 covered most of it. There is also Lab which is a K-12.
