Love it, but it might not be for everyone. I've been here 20 years, and my wife moved in with me from Gramercy when we got married. It was a big adjustment for her, but she's very happy now,..certainly not in any rush to get out. It's not the Upper West Side or the Village, and weekday traffic on 1st and 2nd Ave. can be painful, but there are great restaurants and, (aside from UN Week, and your occasional radiological weapons drill), a very pleasant place to live. We looked at a couple of places in Southgate. Very nice, and super-quiet, but too far from the 4 5 6 for us.

It seems super charming and quiet....
What are some of the restaurants you like?

Plenty on the high-end like Sparks, Pietro's, Nanni, Perigord...but also great neighborhood spots like Deaux Amis, Ethos, Sip Sak, and pretty close to John's Pizza and El Parador. Unfortunately just lost Zarela and Convivio.

Haven't really noticed anything other than a large Police presence on Monday morning outside the UN, and there's really nothing strange about that. Saw it on the news...they said it was going to cause traffic problems. So far, nothing unusual.

Southgate is a great place to live. I lived there for 2 years and the management was great along with the doormen and concierge's. They are very secure in that they have a person in all 3 entrances, including the service entrance. Lobby is a bit dated but still nice to walk into. The aprtments are a nice size and oursa looked out to the River, great during warmer weather. I hope you enjoy the area as much as we did.

I always thought Southgate was considered Sutton area, more than Turtle Bay.

Soutgate is below 53rd st, so not Sutton. More Beekman or Turtle Bay. Sutton Place stops at the FDR offramp at east 53rd.
