FROM THE AP: "Facing criticism over the amount of taxes it pays, General Electric announced it will repay its entire $3.2 billion tax refund to the US Treasury on April 18. GE uses a series of foreign tax havens that the company says are legal and that led to an enormous refund for the 2010 tax year. The company earned $11 billion in 2010 on revenue of $150 billion. The company, based in Fairfield, Conn., plans to phase out tax havens over 5 years and said it will create one job in the US for each new job it creates overseas." That last line shows integrity and true patriotism. If all other US corporations did stuff like this, our country would be in excellent shape. I am writing in "G.E." for president on my next ballot.

OH FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!

"BOSTON (Reuters) - General Electric Co (GE - News) denied sending a press release saying that it would return a tax refund to the U.S. government. The press release was sent by the "Yes Men" activist group, a member of that group said.

"It's a hoax and GE did not receive a refund," said Deirdre Latour, a GE spokeswoman.

The hoax press release claimed that the company planned to give $3.2 billion that it had received as tax refund to the federal government as a gift.

Andrew Boyd, who described himself in a phone interview as a member of the "Yes Men" group, said it was the source of the press release sent to news media outlets on Wednesday."

I was feeling hopeful there for a minute . . .

Hate to say it, but yeah, you're such a fool. Now, about that bridge . . . We've given the reins to the kleptocrats & the corporations; don't expect to get them back without a fight.
