And if you read the CBO report, you will see that the only way it actually "cuts" spending is by assuming unspecified cuts to discretionary spending from 12% to 6% of budget by 2022, and 3% by 2050. I guess the FBI and ATF agents will be working for minimum wage by then, which will still be $7.20 an hour, and all Congress will work for sardines and crackers. Savings!

Virtually all of the $8 billion in cuts to domestic spending is offset by INCREASES in military spending.

In related news, Paul Ryan likes to shoot and eat poor people on weekends*

I think the "reported" numbers expecting a bigger cut to the deficit were based on Ryan's own wildly optimistic economic growth projections. Not really fair to call him a liar, because he probably really believes his tax cuts will bring about that economic growth. But it is perfectly legitimate to discount his projections.

If you try something 3 times, and each time it fails, should you be given the benefit of the doubt when your plan calls for a 4th time, even though you've never acknowledged your past failures? At what point do you go from honest mistake to con?

The record is not as consistent as you make it out. The Kennedy tax cuts almost certainly boosted economic growth. Possibly the Reagan ones as well. The GWB tax cuts might have helped the economy if they hadn't been combined with so much war abroad and pork at home . . .

But none of them cut deficits or paid back the debt. Tax cuts can be effective boosts to economic activities, if done properly (ie not by eliminating inheritance tax or lowering a low rate to a lower one that causes large deficits); lower taxes for the wealthy, and it creates lower taxes for the wealthy. Redistribution, not growth, not higher tax revenues or lower deficits. Taxes are too low already, so any additional cut will make our debt even larger. The type of cut proposed, lowering the top marginal rate, is also the most ineffective.
Ryan cannot be given the benefit of the doubt. Joe Schmo might, but Ryan has the means and opportunity, and the duty to inform himself. He can't defend himself with some sort of faith explanation here. The CBO report is clear about the impact of his plan.

Regan did not cut taxes. He raised them 11 times. The Reagan tax cuts are a myth. Most people under Reagan saw their taxes RISE.

Reagan raised the gas tax, so you can blame high gas prices on him and his tax and spend policies.

Socialist, your definition of "people" is too broad. Under Reagan, people saw their taxes cut to practically nothing. It's just those smelly masses who had their taxes go up under Reagan's regime.

Today Chris Christie said he wants to take a bat to a 76 year old woman because she collects a govt. pension. Is this the new Rpeublican philosophy?

Charming ... the lady deserves to be beaten for collecting her deferred compensation annuity from prior work?

Also, that doesn't bode well for Christie's views on our own rights to withdraw 401(k) funds when we're 76.

When nobody is looking, Christie likes to beat stray puppies and kittens with baseball bats. He then eats them*

NOT the Ryan “plan” you will note.

"Deficit-Panel Chiefs Back Obama Plan
The leaders of a bipartisan commission met with Obama Thursday and called his framework for slashing the deficit by $4 trillion over 12 years a "solid, responsible plan."..."

As Clinton was doing his elimination of the debt lap with chubby Lewinsky swinging from his Lyndon Johnson the country went bizerk and tried to throw him from office. The country was so outraged that Al Gore, a politician both credible and intelligent, was passed over because of the 'crimes' of his boss in favor of Curious George. That little monkey entered us into two wars and cut taxes to the wealthy, plunging us into the worst financial crisis of our adult lives. The debt is unimaginable and was run up during a time of prosperity.

Now it's time to pay the piper or kick the can up the road. The can is now a 55 gallon drum...and getting bigger. Say good by to Iraq, Afnowherestan, Libya. Say goodbye to fat Medicare, Social Sec. bennies and Medicare. Say hello to higher taxes.

Well, that was worth it.

We had a Gov in NY.
He had a little side action and we threw him to the wolves.
We rewarded ourselves with Gov. McGoo.

Well, that was worth it.
