"poorly fitted air-conditioners cost buildings in New York City $130 million to $180 million a year in extra fuel consumption" High Costs Linked to Gaps Around Air-Conditioners- http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/14/science/earth/14cool.html?hpw
How about we just screw the whole thing.
let's face facts.
We are going to use up all our natural resources.
We are going to pollute the earth beyond habitability.
I say screw it.
Anyone reading this now will most likely not see the end. We have more time than that (not much more).
I say, Run the AC with the windows wide open and cool the city streets for everyone.
In winter run the heat at full blast, windows open, and warm this town up.
When you see an endangered species, think, I better eat it fast before I lose my chance to taste it.
Stop watching your health. Eat fatty fried food loaded with carbs, simple sugars and cholesterol.
The longer you live the better chance of needing long term health care.
Dream of dropping dead into your dinner plate after almost finishing your favorite most delicious comfort food.
Happy....Over indulge....die
Beats the hell out of a nursing facility.
If ya got'em....smoke'em
Winter: heat full blast, a/c also full blast, window in the other room open
I'm going to purchase a humidifier and a de-humidifier and let them fight it out.
Light on full time plus sleeping mask
Just hope the A/C works in every subway car I'm in this summer!
Speaking of A/Cs, how often should you change the filter? Once a season?
Filter should be cleaned monthly.
@NYCMatt - Really? Wow. My husband and I rarely, if ever, change it..... Oops!
That's a good way to get Legionnaire's Disease.
all forms of audio on full blast throughout apt, while wearing noise-canceling headphones
oven on, door open--fridge/freezer, nearby, doors wide open
Drive to a far-away gym to use the treadmill.
@NYCMatt - we surprisingly rarely use the A/C... We have a pretty shaded apartment. But will definitely change the filter this time!
I'm going to fly to Miami (first class) in July, go to a tanning salon for several hours before jetting back to NYC. In Miami Airport I'll jam all the electronic doors open. I'm going to order the Kamodo dragon club sandwich with sliced Bengal Tiger smothered in Shark Fin/Carrier Pigion egg sause.
I'll fly all over the world in my private jets to preach about the effect of fossil fuels on global warming.
"In some buildings, the report said, the cost of fuel lost to such energy waste is equal to the total cost of cooling the building alone." - something to think about when looking into a unit where utilities are included in the maintenance. Falco - is that on ciabatta bread or a sesame bagel??
One thing I do know is that when we work weekends, my company needs to request that the building maintain lights/AC or heat/etc on our floor. It costs ~$300-400/hour apparently, which is of course charged to us!
If we frack everything then when we run the water we can light it on fire!
Water
Heat
Light
One low price!
if it could carry an HD TV signal...how good would that be!
i'm looking forward to the fall.
>i'm looking forward to the fall.
We are in April now.
