Aug. too soon to look for Oct. high-rise rental?

I am moving back to NY in the Fall and will be looking for an Oct. 1 lease. I am not planning to use a broker since I will mostly be looking at the luxury-doorman-type buildings near Columbus Circle and along 7th Ave in Chelsea (easy enough to deal with management directly). Do you mean 6th ave? That's where the majority of those rental buildings are. 7th has the Centro, and I can't think of any others. 6th has vanguard, landmark, capitol, towers, 666, archstone, and some others...

My take is, can't hurt. They supposedly get notice about vacancies 60 days before (well, its at least what they seem to request), so they might have a bead before something gets posted.

That being said, they might not. But if you know the "lines" from your visit, you might not need to see the actual place...
