East of Broadway is pretty much a slum.

It's fine if you don't mind noise, filth, and are looking for a place to save money on the rent.

it is the LAST place you should consider BUYING an apartment.

Really we just an offer in on a unit the area seemed ok even at night its sort of like our neighborhood here in Boston. It's so hard to know, anything else I should know about. And how do I get to your thread.

Seriously. Withdraw the offer. If you want to live north of 96th Street, stay WEST of Broadway.

$135,000 paying cash monthly fees of around $500 there just isn't a lot in our price range we were also looking into Riverdale thanks

Riverdale is a MUCH better area.

Here's the thing. There's nothing in Manhattan that you'd want to live in for much under $250K.

Just because it's in your price range doesn't mean by a long shot that it's a "good deal."

If you insist on paying cash, stick with the Bronx.

All of Riversale is great.

Unfortunately, with your restrictions ($135K max) you can't afford anything decent in Manhattan or Brooklyn. Even the nicer parts of the Bronx will be a challenge. The disturbing thing about your building inquiries, though, is that you haven't mentioned HDFC (as far as I've noticed, anyway). Do you know what HDFC is?

wuttup with your urge to buy?? rent in a decent neighborhood, keep saving--there's absolutely no hurry to buy borderline property in this market

Just trying to get educated about these areas you would call WH boderline why. And if you follow the prices now is a good time to invest.
