At these prices,you could live further downtown.

Actually that is not true. I did a StreetEasy search of 2 BR/2bath aparmtents with elevator, doorman and private outdoor space, and monthly maintenance of less than 750$ and taxes less than 500$. This apartment in the financial district was the only one even remotely comparable:

and it is on the market for 1, 160,000.

sorry,also searched for similarly sized apartments.sq ft > 1000.
