Well water vs Town water

Does anyone have an informed opinion on which is better? Im looking at land where its looking like it will be very expensive to run town water onto the property. Thus, I may have to get a well put in. The concept of a well just scares me...possible contamination, problems with the well and having to maintain it etc. For some reason, Im just not too comfortable with the well water concept. Any thoughts or advice?

if you do have to go with well water, you can have a water filtration system installed in your house.

Also I believe you have to test the water to make sure it is good, check with well company, we have a well and whole house filtration with a another filtration which removes acidity to maintain a good ph.
