REBNY affiliated broker important anymore ?

I hear different things as to weather or not its important for a Brokerage Firm to be a REBNY member. Some say the OLR that u get with REBNY isn't that important anymore, but others have told me there are other benefits to being REBNY affiliated. Im looking for a firm and one will do an 80 - 20 split and are reputable but aren't with REBNY. thanks
