Discussion about
Does anybody have a view on desirability of West Soho (between Varick and Sixth) for a young family? Grocery and gym access is pretty limited, but a lot of charm in the neighborhood and great access to trains, West Village, Soho, Tribeca, etc.
We have Fresh Direct in NYC now....fabulous on line supermarket with just about everything you could possibly want at fair prices. The groceries are delivered right to your door.
Please, for the love of God, no more "young families" in the area.
I don't know if this is a concern, but PS 3 and PS 41 and the best downtown playgrounds are all a bit of a hike from 50 King. Also since 50 King is close to the Varick St. holland tunnel approach, the traffic noise and fumes can be unpleasant, especially during the afternoon rush. A lot of traffic speeds around the corner of king and varick. Not a good spot for kids with respiratory problems.
A decade ago there was lots of drug activity in and around the corner of king and varick but perhaps this is no longer an issue, especially with the OTB being gone.
Yes, you'll probably wind up using fresh direct a lot.
In all a pleasant block with great access to the downtown scene, but not necessarily the best spot for kids.
