Exclusivity betweem pffer and signing

When an offer on a co-op is accepted but before diligence is complete and before a contract is signed, is it fair / customary for a buyer to ask for exclusivity (either real exclusivity or a lesser protection such as a right to match the price or an agreement not to further show the apartment) for a short period of time?

1. depends how much time you want
2. if it's only 2-3 days, your request is reasonable and should be honored
3. longer than that it's less likely
4. if you need weeks, no
