Discussion about
So I'm a first time home buyer who closed about 3 weeks ago after going into contract in late February. I bought a coop in Brooklyn and when deciding what bank I should go with for the mortgage, I considered a few but ultimately chose Bank of America because of a few reasons but a big one that I feel paid off was Sunny Hong. This guy was so responsive and helpful, even when I didnt have any idea... [more]

Yes. Sunny is awesome. I've had 1 new loan and 1 refinance through him. I've recommended him to several of my friends many of which ended up using him for their financing needs.

That's great. When Sunny first showed up, his posts were pretty spammy--basically just trolling for business. I mention this not to cast aspersion way after the fact, but because when this was pointed out to him he very quickly changed tack and started adding a lot of useful content to this site. I wish more folks trying to use the Internet to generate business would learn from Sunny's example--if you can invest constructively into a community, that will pay off far more than using it for spammy "lead generation".

So, as JuiceMan says, mad props to Sunny!

Yes, another thumbs up for Sunny here! Sunny was the best part (A+) of my home-buying experience (which was not-so-great overall). He is quick to respond, patient enough to guide, and meticulous enough to avoid any mistakes.

I am very impressed with Sunny and I am very lucky to have him as my mortgage banker. "I would not have traded that help I got from Sunny for the .012% lower at another bank" - Totally agree.

I have also found Sunny to be very responsive the two times I have dealt with him. But I have found dealing with Bofa to be a nightmare. Is it just me, a few of bad experiences? Love some feedback on them, because I have been telling people to steer clear.

w67th, no need to go postal here. i am sure you can appreciate the morass of barely competent in this field and he simply is head and shoulders above anyone i've dealt with so i say good for him. i get your point, just some positive feedback doesnt hurt when there are so many incompetents.

I gotz no bone to pick with you reangerfan nor do I personally with Sunny Hong. But I am disgusted with the prevalence of praising people for the absolute minimums.

Here's food for thought. If I gave a silver medal to a guy who hid in a cave while all his comrades died fighting the enemy, what does it do to the silver medal?

Yes, I do manhattan refis. And I have been hearing lots of "hate boa" talk but many times it's not the lender but the person/people youre dealing with that probably causes this hatred. Just my thoughts. Could be wrong.

I was dealing with you Sunny through last year but basically the underwriting terms were such that you said you'd have to ignore my recent raise, my bonus of 2 consecutive years, etc. so I could not qualify for the amount of the apt. I was looking at, at a building that has BoA as the preferred and only lender. So the offer there went nowhere, and as far as I know they have yet to close the first sale.

I'm right now in the process of closing somewhere else, with a different lender who was willing to take into account those relevant parts of my financial picture.

Kafka, I don't recall your exact scenario but Im sure there was a legitimate reason with bofa not being able to move forward with you. We do accept the higher income when one receives a raise and accept bonus income if you received it for 2 consecutive years. I'm sure there was another reason perhaps? And you will find different guidelines with different lenders sometimes. Thanks and best of luck.

I used Sunny Hong's services when I closed on a Condo earlier this year and he was extremely helpful and responsive. Made our lives so much easier. Others had forewarned us about the perils and delays of getting an approved loan but my case was hassle free.

Mad props to Sunny!
