What are people experiencing with their bids of more than 5% below the ask on 2-3 bed $1.5mm to $2.5mm properties in prime manhattan areas?

We recently bid 20% below on something in that range in a prime area and were told it was too low to go to owners with. But, the next day we got a call saying the owners were interested and then a week later they asked us if we could come up 5%. We do not want to. So, we are waiting and saw on SE that the owners just lowered their price $150,000.
