inspection for new construction

Well, you can still do an inspection, but probably too late to get anything into the contract, for obvious reasons. However, most people do an inspection before the closing for new construction, so you still have a chance.

There's two schools of thought on new developement inspections: 1) you do it while the walls are still open and your inspector can actually see all the behind-the-scenes of how the systems work, which is a great opportunity if you have it. However, since most people don't get the timing just right to accomplish that, there's option 2) which is a standard inspection after construction is complete, probably after the temporary certificate of occupancy has been issued but before you close and before they've gotten the final CofO. Your inspector will still be able to check out the systems that have been installed, and a good one will be able to tell you where to watch for potential leaks, pros & cons of the contractors choice in boilers/heaters/etc.
