U.S. Could Learn a Valuable Financial Lesson from Canada Some governors have shown the way. You know about Chris Christie, Scott Walker, Rick Scott, John Kasich, etc. But you probably don’t know about Luis Fortuno. Fortuno is governor of Puerto Rico. Two years ago, he fired 17,000 government workers. No state governor did anything like that. He cut spending much more than Walker did in Wisconsin. In return, thousands of union members demonstrated against Fortuno for days. They clashed with police. They called him a fascist Fortuno said he had to make the cuts because Puerto Rico’s economy was a mess. Fortuno reduced corporate taxes from 35 percent to 25 percent. He reduced individual income taxes. He privatized entire government agencies. “Bring in the private sector,” Fortuno said. “They will do a better job. They will do it cheaper.” http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2011/06/15/us-could-learn-valuable-financial-lesson-from-canada/ So how is Puerto Rico doing today? Surely after shrinking government and cutting taxes, they have plenty of jobs right? Not so fast. Unemployment in Puerto Rico is 16%. [less]
If Fox News hates America's tax cuts so much, maybe it should just move to another country.
I also like the title of the artice: U.S. Could Learn a Valuable Financial Lesson from CANADA
Shame on Fox for promoting Socialism!
you have a 46 inch SONY LED hooked to an apple TV that was made in China...
downgrade to a 32" vizio, refund that apple TV to something domestically built (at 4 times the price)...
,,,and take that difference to voluntarily pay extra tax..
how much did you voluntarily pay in tax on top of your withholding/estimated payments?
what number? thanks
Perhaps you need not to CUT corporate taxes, but ELIMINATE them altogether to attract businesses.
so to parallel, the overpaid corrupt Greek politicians lambasted through every print media should have kept their jobs to make the unemployment rate look "better?"
Why do we need to eliminate corporate taxes when most Fortune 500s don't even pay it thanks to loopholes? We know that even with a rate of ZERO companies still would not hire.
I don't have an Apple TV.
Have we already discussed the recent NYT article that reveals the open taps on corporate spending for equipment and software and the like, but virtually none on new hiring?
The best part was an explanation that sharply increased farm productivity in the past couple of generations didn't result in fewer overall jobs in the US, so don't you worry about a thing. It failed even the correlation test, let alone causation.
Time for them to trot out the ridiculous "creative destruction" mantra again.
"I don't have an Apple TV."
I'm sorry Google TV, which costs even MORE than Apple TV..so much EXCESS for such a socialist!
please refund this ASAP and downgrade your 46" SONY China made TV which robs American jobs of which you cry about...
...take the difference and voluntarily pay HIGHER taxes of which you keep cry about...
..there is an MTA car repairman making only $280,000 on salary (without pensions accounted) who can't support his spawn without your higher taxes..
..please pay him via paying higher voluntary local/MTA tax..
tell me what that number is..
what number?
"Why do we need to eliminate corporate taxes when most Fortune 500s don't even pay it thanks to loopholes"
Because those companies are paying tens of millions to lawyers and accountants to find those loopholes that help them avoid paying HUNDREDS of millions of dollars in taxes.
Make it all go away.
..and i doubt those accountants and lawyers aren't based in China or India...
...but socialist's 46" LED SONY TV is.. oy, he couldn't understand sarcasm in this thread...
http://streeteasy.com/nyc/talk/discussion/27151-help-helicopter-pilot-gift-
so i'd doubt he understands the concept of irony...
...walrus clap.

alpie has a new friend.
Actually they are based in India ss400k:
Let's Offshore The Lawyers
DuPont is farming out legal services to Asia—and saving a bundle
http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_38/b4001061.htm
Most companies/firms are actually more likely to offshore attorney jobs to some low-rent city in the us. and it's being done, a lot.
sorry to hear
"Most companies/firms are actually more likely to offshore attorney jobs to some low-rent city in the us. and it's being done, a lot."
Someone should tell the Obama NLRB to investigate that right away!
Why? Lord you're a dipshit, alpie.
Socialist, have some empathy for those lawyers who are relatives of streeteasy posters who have had their jobs threatened.
Canada still has higher marginal and effective tax rate than the US. It's also got so god damn much oil.
and we've got so god damn much food.
so did you return your SONY China made 46" LED to support American jobs? or are you enjoying the cheaper price:quality ratio based on cheap labor you publicly scorn but privately enjoy..
oh sweet 6 year old Asian hands.. so delicate in handling microchips
you never answered the question above
Canada exports more food per capita than the US.
"Over The Past 4 Years News Corp Generated $10.4 Billion In Profits And Received $4.8 Billion In "Taxes" From The IRS"
"Bottom line: Murdoch's corporation had a cash paid tax rate of -46% between 2007 and 2010. The culrpit: two little somethings called Deferred Tax Assets and Net Operating Loss Carry-forwards. "

Last time there was a tax cut, I had more money for my family. How is that not effective?
Ruptert Murdoch is trying to hack into my Voicemail again.
