First of all, unless one is confined to only tiny 10-blk radius on upper east or upper west side or only the "rich", NYC is now by and large 80% minority. This is a huge impact on the "pool" and many of the behaviors/criteria of "attractiveness" are being influenced by this. An Hispanic Alpha-male is NOT 6+ft tall! Nor is he likely to have a power job or $ UNLESS it's due to drugs or other side-line activities. It's like with Little Italy/Hell's Kitchen 100+ years ago....the "gansta" (in our definition) is the "alpha" fems are seeking/choosing/find attractive....NOT the "alpha" as you & I might define it in our past or limited perspective. Living here and seeing up close how rank & file actually interact/work/live puts a whole new light on the thing....these people are (and not because they are minority) essentially on the lower rungs of (traditional) society even thought they are now the majority.....their "swagger" is crowding out the (traditional) concepts of alpha/beta....the (former termed) losers/"low level males" are running the asylum. They bring a post-prison aura to the table that traitional a and b does not have and no fem wanted them to have until now! It's primal but in a dark no-future sense.
It is first of all a "cluster" of attributes....but in any case, it is LACK of a)establishment b)achievement/success/edu/brains etc that is now in vogue...NOT ALL the factors that once were indicative of survival of the species ...What is now wanted/found "attractive" is the OPPOSITE of what is needed to survive/flourish. What is "evolving" now is actually regression, i.e. the
"selection" of the most deficient/unlikely to perpetuate species/society! In other words, the "losers" (of both sexes) are "winning" as Sheen would say and not those with the attributes that formerly made them prime mate-material. People's thinking (wiring) is askew...it is self-destructive, not geared toward increasing evolment.

well, as long as this thread is still around, i suppose it all depdends on grandma's definition of alpha. in theory, alpha-ness trascends professional and socioeconomic backgrounds. if one can only be alpha among their peer group of yuppies, that isn't really alpha. the swaggering "drugdealer" would probably command the attention and fear of people across the board. stricktly speaking, that's alpha. "grandma" is probably just a geek whose swagger doesn't office swagger doesn't translate well into the real world and is angry that girls only like him for his money.

exactly. take columbiacounty here. now that's an example of an alpha male. when he walk into a room, people stop and look at him. and not just because the right side of his face is covered with grotesque (benign) tumors.
here's the american version i guess with funny footage of guys (and a girl) in uniform dancing mixed in with some other stuff for some reason. there were 2 Marines in dress uniform in my wedding. true story. awesome pictures.
