following this thread..
white Italian marble kitchen counter-top needs slight (red wine) stain removal.. as well as "capping/sealing" the marble piece for future protection..how much?

Before calling in the professionals try this easy and inexpensive way for removing stains from marble. First cover stain with a powder cleanser (Ajax, Comet, etc.)and then spray with a laundry stain remover (I like Resolve) to create a paste. Rub paste on stain and then cover with a plastic lid (turn lid upside down so there is space between stain and lid) and then let sit for a few hours--overnight if necessary. I have Calacatta counter tops and was able to completely remove a large coffee stain using this method. Good Luck!
thanks fixer, will try that.. i've googled various similar methods but am quite scared bc some people who misapply have stated they ruined their counter-tops...
..also do you know about "sealing/capping" it?? our Super mentioned doing it every 6 months to protect it (probably gets a referral fee from 'his guy') but I've yet to do it since it looks perfectly fine (save the slight wine stain)
ss400k - I use a product called 511 Impregnator.(bought a large size somewhere) . You wipe it on, let sit, then wipe it off. I usually put on a first coat and let it dry to a haze., then wipe on a second coat, let dry slightly, and then polish.
ss- you can also try a very wet paste of either Oxiclean or baking soda, just sprinkle on the dry then wet it) cover with plastic wrap, let sit. Wipe off when dry (similar method to fixerupper's, with just slightly different ingredients).
Poultice is what we use to stake out stains from porous surfaces. I would recommend a professional to handle this type of work however
I'm a designer and I usually use a company by the name of marbleblue. They have reasonable prices and the work is always beautiful. Try viewing there website. http://www.marbleblue.com. I hope it will be helpful.
I would not recommend fixerupper method for cleaning marble!!!!!!!!!!!!.
