Checks with Rental Application

Is it customary to have to submit certified checks for 1st month, security deposit and broker's fee with an application and before it has been approved?

This should be poster in Rentals, but yes it has been in my experience.

NO! I wouldn't hand over any payment, except the application and credit check fee, until lease signing.

uwsmom, you have never rented in a condo or coop then.

also glenwood and related both will sign leases and collect money for an apartmet before final approvals. to mame two.

Thanks, uwsmom. I haven't given anything but a check for a credit report. I'd certainly pay for an application fee.
