Discussion about
Does anyone know where we can find short sales on condos? I know there is a service for foreclosures that people pay for? But as far as short sales go, I have no idea where to look? Thanks for everyone's help in advance!

there is no service for short sales. the seller who is in default gets in touch with a realtor and the realtor sells the apartment as a short sale. one caviat, in NY having a deal go through is about 30% chance.

yes the time is not as great as 08, but I still want to find these things if they still do happen? There is no search I can do for short sales completely? I am trying to broaden my scope of what I can get out of the market.

there really is no search. i've been in contract twice for a short sale and just stubled upon them by ads from brokers. outside of the city, it's much easier to find them as the MLS listing will state that it's a short sale or third party approval required.

You can search SE for listings where the description includes the term "short sale". I just did that and got 194 hits. A real mish-mash of stuff, but you can add more screening criteria to narrow the focus. Here is one example, for what it's worth.

Short sales have also been discussed on various previous threads, so you might find something useful if you search the term in the discussions search box (right side of this page)

Another efficient way to do this is to work with a lawyer who specializes in real estate and has good legal contacts with bank mortgage departments.
