I love this. So true.

We pretend not to be an authoritarian society but we really are. Freedom for all, unless you criticize the government.

This is a quote from the article: "The investigation began before Standard & Poor’s cut the United States’ AAA credit rating this month ..." So, if anything, S & P's downgrade was a reaction to the government investigation, not the other way around. Also, S & P and other rating agencies were sued many years ago in civil actions by investors saying the rating agencies hid the risk, so it is completely plausible that such allegations sparked a government investigation.

This story apparently as leaked to the times by the government. There are no named sources, so very suspicious over the claims of timing.
