Discussion about
Some interesting employment stats... NY's recovery fades, but still exceeds nation's - Two reports and a survey released Wednesday paint a disheartening picture of the state's post-recession economy. But most other states are doing even worse, the analysis shows. :: http://www.crainsnewyork.com/article/20110831/FREE/110839974

What recovery? We are in the middle of a 2nd dip. But nobody wants to admit it.

Republicans can't wait to hear what it is!

Well, maybe they could wait another day to hear it.

ok, this is highly confidential, but I have a source inside Boehner's office and he just e-mailed me the entire Republican plan to create jobs. Dont' tell anyone or else I could go to jail because it is top secret. Promise? ok, here it is:

1. Tax cuts
2. Deregulation
3. More tax cuts
4. More deregulation
5. Privatizng govt.
6. Even more tax cuts
7. Even more deregulation

Hurricane Irene created more jobs in 1 day than Obama did in 3 years. Oops, did I just say that out loud?

and that would probably work!!! Gov't can't creat jobs. well I guess it creates jobs my taxing business then employing inefficient goverment workers. The quickest way to creat jobs is by having business create it! Govt can do this by makng the operating environment more clear.. ie no new regs or taxes. Do this and business will put money to work. THis will create JOBS!! if you privatized more of gov't-- or downsized! that would stop crowding out business- the govt is too bloated limiting opportunity.. Look companies have tones of cash earning nothing looking for opportunity. If the government would get out of the way. Jobs would come back.. its that simple!!!

If it comes to Mitt vs. Obama, on the last day, Obama could just repeatedly run the clip of Mitt saying "Corporations are people"

"you privatized more of gov't-- or downsized! that would stop crowding out business- the govt is too bloated limiting opportunity.."

As usual, in teabagger land, facts don't matter:

"The striking zero result should galvanize minds, but it’s worth noting that this has been the trend all year. The public sector has been steadily shrinking. According to the conservative theory of the economy, when the public sector shrinks that should super-charge the private sector. What’s happened in the real world has been that public sector shrinkage has simply been paired with anemic private sector growth. This is what I’ve called “The Conservative Recovery.” Conservatives complain about the results because the President is a Democrat named Barack Obama. But the policy result is what conservatives say they want. Steady cuts to the government sector, offset somewhat by private sector growth."

"The government can't create jobs ... its that simple"

After all, no one (other than about 25% of the labor force) works for the government, and the government has nothing to do with the rest of the jobs (except for the ones that depend on selling to the government or people who work for the government, or the ones that require educated employees, a police force, property rights, courts, fire departments, honest financial markets, food that doesn't kill, electricity, sewers, water, health care, transportation, a functioning monetary system or the other "inefficient" services the government provides.)

And obviously the problem is "crowding out": the government has hired so many people that unemployment is at 9% and wages are dropping and it is using so much capital that interest rates are at all time lows -- negative in real terms for good credit risks, like the US government.

And taxes on business are so high that they are lower than they've been in generations, while government workers are so inefficient that with years of budget cuts, our schools and police and fire departments and transit systems and army still work (sort of), while the private sector is so extraordinarily efficient that banks managed to finance a world wide housing bubble that led to years of wasted effort, an entire generation that won't be able to retire comfortably and a world wide recession.

Please.

Businesses aren't hiring because they have no customers, and they have no customers because businesses aren't hiring or aren't paying enough for people to live on, and because people are trying to save to make up for their losses created by the banks' and builders' and Greenspan's incompetent failure to do their job and prevent the largest housing bubble in history.

And because the politicians, led by Republicans who are willing to sacrifice the country to their idols of upward income redistribution, refuse to do the obvious things to solve the problem:
(1) have the US borrow at zero percent to hire people to start rebuilding the schools, transit, energy systems, basic research, etc., that have been neglected since Ronald Reagan convinced us that democratic government is the problem and the rules of law ought to be suspended for businesses that make profits by cheating.
(2) lower the value of the dollar so that US businesses can make money by exporting instead of by importing, by hiring here instead of abroad.

But sure, all we need is for government to get out of the way. More layoffs, less infrastructure, more deteriorated transit, environmental destruction, unrestrained financial fraud and, of course, don't replace the aging satellites that make hurricane predictions possible -- excellent chance that that's the right recipe for rapid growth in jobs. Destroying the economy to fix it: the new right wing recipe.

hey finace guy-- If the government stayed out of housing in the first place we would not be in this mess!

Bush signed the Housing and Community Development Act of 1992. The Act amended the charter of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to reflect Congress' view that the GSEs "have an affirmative obligation to facilitate the financing of affordable housing for low-income and moderate-income families."[15] For the first time, the GSEs were required to meet "affordable housing goals" set annually by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and approved by Congress. The initial annual goal for low-income and moderate-income mortgage purchases for each GSE was 30% of the total number of dwelling units financed by mortgage purchases[16] and increased to 55% by 2007

I guess a better way it is too create a huge, bloated government bureaucracy to make a bunch of rules that make it to costly for business to profit, grow and create jobs.. Better to pay all the salaries of the bureaucrats that prevent growth

That would be me. Why can't financeguy make a point instead of a thesis that is geared solely towards impractical, ivory tower audiences who have no real world experience?

You had to throw in environmental, right? Just to show your true colors. Of course environmental is nice, but how does it improve JOBS? Wasn't your diatribe about jobs? Or it isn't really, it isn't about jobs at all, it is merely about more government, more regulation, more bureaucrats who can make things more difficult for business out of spite of the likes of financeguy and Wbottom.

Hell, maybe after all Obama is a bit ahead of you financeguy, since this announcement came just today, maybe he's slowly starting to understand:
