Discussion about
Has anyone used the Sliding Door Company? What do you think of the quality of work, timeliness and price?
I used the Sliding Door Company to divide my large studio into two rooms. My sliding door is over 14' long, 4 doors on 2 tracks at appx. 5.5' tall. I have them installed on the first step of my platform bedroom.
Here's what I didn't like and what could use a little improving:
- Remember I mentioned I have a 14' sliding door? Well the beam that supports it is a solid 14' beam. It doesn't fold, it doesn't come apart. It had to be walked up over 13 flights of stairs. The worst part....they could not get it in my apartment door. It couldn't bend so it was impossible to get the angles right. So a part of my hallway closet had to be notched out to make the swing.
- The milk glass is smooth on one side and a bit textured on the other side. This makes it hard to clean that side. We've tried everything...rags, paper towels, water, vinegar, etc. It's frustrating.
- The veins or dividers that you buy to make it look like it is individual panels are put on with double-stick white tape. It would have been nicer if they had a sliding track system that you could snap in and out for changing and/or cleaning. Also, because of these ugly white backings of the double-stick tape, you better plan on two sets of dividers; one for the front and one for the back this way you won't have to see the ugly white stickers through the glass on the back side.
- The doors do not close completely shut. There is a very small gap caused by the tiny bumpers on each door. I solved the problem somewhat by removing one side of the bumpers of the doors that meet in the middle. It helps a lot.
- The tracks on the floor collect a lot of dust and fur (if you have pets). This dust and fur gets caught in the wheels and cause it to jam a bit.
- Pricing was on the high side. I think I paid almost 3k. I didn't price any other companies so I don't have much to compare.
Overall I am very happy with my doors and love the way the divide my apartment. They add so much value in my apartment. Everyone who comes to my apartment raves about how it improves the space completely. I am very happy I have them despite the few items that could use improving.
does anyone have any recommendations for sliding doors besides the sliding door company? also, has anyone heard of sliding doors that don't have a track that runs along the entire width of a floor. I've seen hanging doors (wood not glass) that has a very small track...just wondering if thats possible for glass.
Have you tried places like Home Depot and Lowes? I had the wooden ones that hung from top but they get stuck at times for no reason and some times the door just pops out.
