Discussion about
Unemployment rises as city's recovery stalls - The jobless rate ticked up in August, according to data released Thursday by the state. The city's economy was recovering faster than the nation's, but now it's losing steam—and the nation's is catching up. :: http://www.crainsnewyork.com/article/20110915/FREE/110919930

The economy is "recovering"? HA, that's a good one. I can't wait for the August jobs report that showed zero jobs were created to get revised downward to show that we LOST jobs.

I don't read Ediot so I'll take it from the title: the parallels to 2008 abound, as my favorite, Spot Corn, shows:

Nobody's making that many tortillas to cause the price to jump so high, completely coincident (as with everything else) with QEII. Like oil:

That's what's causing the problem - too much liquidity in all the wrong places.

That, plus Europe's problems are far from over and, in fact, getting worse, when the only place their banks can get dollars from are the central banks. Greece will default - or face riots, they're economy is collapsing at an incredibly fast pace.

This should come as no surprise - unemployment and inflation are LAGGING indicators: they represent what HAPPENED, not what is happening. We have a long way to go to get out of this mess.

Housing is not fixed, by far, and neither are US banks. The slower the economy gets - and we're probably at 0% growth right now - the higher underemployment, and unemployment, get.

my bet is third quarter will ultimately show negative GDP growth(nothing got done in Aug bcs of debt ceiling issues and this month it's the Greek, Italy .. european mess the will slow it down more)-- so 4th qurt is not looking good at all.

Let's see what new Bubble Mechanisms the Fed is going to come up with tomorrow. Then we can wait and see what the Greeks will agree to & then not implement.

I read today that Germany has demanded that Greece move to an all Feta economy.
All monetary exchanges will involve this salty cheese.

Isn't Feta a measure of volatility in options? Or do I just have a speech impediment?

Funny.
But, more accurately: they earn a ton, they just don't pay any taxes on it!
Thus, the country is bankrupt, but its citizens have large accounts in Swiss banks.
Sort of what the Republicans want to do with our country as well...
