..and the older men before him used to barter pigs for banana leafs to use for their babies as diapers what's his point?

I have to agree with Grantham, nobody remembers a true bear market. So far any real bounce down has been followed by a bounce up. It doesn't always work that way.

Of course, you need those bear markets to get those bull markets everyone always wishes they got in on...

so 2001 to 2002 wasnt a bear market ? there were layoffs all over the street and in every other. anyone who has worked in NYC in a bank for the last 4 years has every bit of understanding of what a bear market is.
