Discussion about
Marion Hedges, an agent at Prudential Douglas Elliman, has been seriously injured after being hit by a shopping cart thrown off the fourth floor of a parking garage in East Harlem, the New York Post reported. Hedges, who works out of Elliman's office at 575 Madison Avenue, was hit while shopping for candy with her 14-year-old son on the ground floor of the garage and rushed to Harlem Hospital... [more]

NO ONE, and I really mean NO ONE, get snarky about this horrible grotesque tragedy and start saying stupid things because of her occupation. Criticize agents on other threads--NOT this one. The victim of this stupid stupid crime was injured in front of her little boy. I can't imagine what he went through. Or what her family is coping with right now. And just so some of you (those of you debating whether to honor my request to not spill invective here) know, when Ms. Hedges wasn't working, I'm told by friends of hers, that she volunteered unbelievable numbers of hours to charities from fund raising to regularly working in soup kitchens. This is a person who gave back a great deal to the needy people of our city. Godspeed her recovery and I hope her family finds some modicum of comfort in our prayers of support.

kylewest, it could have happened to anybody. teenagers are not known for targeting realtors, i very much doubt it was on purpose.

Kyle -- Do you seriously think someone would say something "snarky" about this terrible story? People hate what brokers (sometimes) do, but no one in the their right mind would want them to suffer physical harm. Your self-righteous comment reveals much more about you and how you are trying to control the board. You could have said "this is awful," but instead you turn it into a moralistic rant and make it about yourself. Plus, "Godspeed" and "modicum of support"? It's like you are channeling a bad writer from the 30s.

It's a sad story, and I hope she fully recovers, but I really don't know why the story should even be on these boards in the first place, actually....

On this board? I can think of several people who might, and who might still.

Jason10006, agree. However, it might have been a better tactic to merely ask that people approach the tragedy with some respect when commenting and exercise some consideration and sensitivity for the family, instead of preemptively launching into a self-righteous and condescending tirade.

I am always amazed at the ever increasing list of posting names that our Midtown East virgin actually has.

The only two people who have talked about violence toward brokers are w67thstreet who talks about violence towards others as well (and not infrequently), and columbiacounty who wanted Jim Hones to brokerage hit by a bus

"luckily" a doctor was nearby to give her CPR. It's not a 100% real estate property related even though I found it while reading real estate news at therealdeal.com

If someone wants to say something vicious, it should be about those kids.

They were nabbed after their friend told authorities what happened and police went building to building in their neighborhood looking for them.

Let's hope nothing bad happens to the friend that helped the police capture these 2 kids.

There's been a series of shootings in the west Harlem / Morningside Park area during the last I'd say 3 or 4 months? Last one was last Wednesday. It involves gangs of very young kids, around 12-15 year old. The neighbors are meeting the police to try to get something done about it, but without limiting access to guns and with the lack of opportunity for the poor young i don't see how it will improve going forward.

Jason recently told someone to move to Utah because he didn't want a female relative to take the Lex at 103rd street.

Anyway if your the type who is afraid for white women walking in daylight in Harlem (which I see EVERY DAY) then this or about half of Manhaattan is not for you.

Also run and be afraid of large parts of the UWS and Chelsea. Try Salt Lake City.
