Discussion about
https://twitter.com/#!/ppppolls/status/136134244954152960 Thank God - Newt is in the lead for the GOP nomination. He will unite the country, save Europe, and the global economy. Newtastic!
Don't knock him. He's a great debater and knows foreign and domestic policy cold. His onl showt coming is that he's never served in a true leadership role, as in being a governor, but then Obama wasn't a governor either before he won four years ago.
Is that his ONLY short coming??? You dont have any issue with him on cheating on his wife while he was impeaching Clinton for doing the same, serving his wife divorce papers while she is in the hospital with cancer, being divorced 3 times and cheating on every spouse, etc etc. Also he support for MASSIVE government intervention in many aspects of life?
clinton was impeached for perjury and obstruction of justice. not adultery and douchebagery. fyi.
oh yeah - I forgot that technicality. Did you also mention that the GOP congress spent years and over 100 million $ investigating Clinton and only caught him in a little white lie?
sigh. i sitting POTUS lies to a federal grand jury about an affair everyone knows he is having, becomes the second POTUS in history of the presidency to get himself impeached, smirks and taunts the court and the gullible american public with admitedly awesome and ballsy pseudo heideggerian references that go on to become permanently etched into the collective american psyche of americans who collectively fail to get that joke. and people still defend him years later. bill clinton is a rock star.
report abuse Is that his ONLY short coming??? No issue with Newt cheating on his wife, and the issue with clinton wasn't his cheating either but the perjury during testimony (paula jones)
ken star did prove Clinton commmitted perjury. see the starr report.
It's funny how nobody recalls Clinton and Whitewater or Hillary Clinton's amazing commodit picking skills. The clintons always wore a coat of teflon. Nothing could touch them and stick.
So lying about "I did not have sexual relations with that woman" is bad
but lying when saying "The evidence indicates that Iraq is reconstituting its nuclear weapons program ... Iraq has attempted to purchase high-strength aluminum tubes and other equipment needed for gas centrifuges, which are used to enrich uranium for nuclear weapons." to start a war is worse then Clinton lying about a blow job?
Its going to be great when Newt gets the nomination and all people talk about is his and the GOP's hypocrisy. Everyone will remember how good it was under Clinton and how much of an ass Newt was.
Obama will sit back and let NEWT and the GOP rip themselves apart!
it's bad to lie about war things AND blow jobs. but only one of those was a crime. like, a real crime, that violated the law of this here land. yes? perjury is a crime? lying is just bad?
"over 100 million $ investigating Clinton and only caught him in a little white lie? "
this slogan cost us $200 million

So lying about "I did not have sexual relations with that woman" is bad
but lying when saying "The evidence indicates that Iraq is reconstituting its nuclear weapons program ...
No, what George W did was not lying, it was bad judgment at most. Lots of experts believed Iraq had WOMD. There were no nuclear weamps. Israel blew up OSIRAK. They were talking chemical.
Ah - Bush was lying and it was a crime in this country and internationally considered a War Crime. Funny how those on the right are quick to judge democrats and quick to forget and not judge those within your party....
Each side always thinks the other side gets off easier. It's just not the case. Both sides attempt to protect their own and not all issues are equal. Mark Sanford had to vacate his position after going AWOL and leaving the country with his mistress
Riversider in your opinion - which is worse lying about cheating on your wife or lying about reasons to start a war with a country that never attacked us.
Loaded question User. Your phrasing Clinton's issue as a simple lie and ignoring the perjury issue. Then you assume that Bush lied to start a war which to the best of my knowledge has never been proven. I would phrase it which is worse A President who perjures himself or one that relied on bad advice and/or exercised bad judgment(which is not an impeachable crime.
And for the record I believe the argument for going into Iraq was not convincingly made. Bush argued that a secular dictator was linking up with Islamic fundamentalists. I never did see how Al Qaeda attacking the U.S. justified an escalation in Iraq.
"No, what George W did was not lying"
right, which brings up another (though perhaps unrelated) point. it is gravely significant and very very ignorant to so lightly accuse potus of a lie. there is a reason that clinton was only the second potus to be impeached and that people who understand how our government and laws work continue to insist it was a really big deal that he lied. under oath. it's hard for a potus to lie! every piece of information a potus consumes has been carefully filtered by his handlers in order for him to maintain PLAUSIBLE DENIABILTY. potus is the highest office in this country, believe it or not, in addition to people whose job is DIE protecting the presidency and the guy who is currently wearing that hat, there are people whose job is keep the presidency untainted by basically processing much of the info and presenting it to the guy in charge in a way that keeps him PROTECTED from having to lie. potus can't just lie, it's a very big deal. there are people whose job is to keep the current encarnation of the presidency within the legal boundries of "honest". ok? potus can't just lie!
let's not forget weiner also got left holding his weiner. AAAHH HAHAHAHAHA i crack myself up.
"And for the record I believe the argument for going into Iraq was not convincingly made."
i think all the formal agruments for that were bs and the only one that ever made sense was taking the fight to an arab country. and i think it had to iraq because our arab allies didn't like saddam, he pissed them off. i honestly wouldn't be shocked if that was a real conversation between american arab world experts thot ended with, alrighty then! saddam is it!
"He's a great debater and knows foreign and domestic policy cold."
I guess nobody told you about the VIDEO. In case you have not seen it, this is the VIDEO that will end his campaign:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qi6n_-wB154
Why is this post on a real estate board? Take it to cnn.com.
"carefully filtered by his handlers"
that sounds kind of weird. i didn't mean to sound like there is a team of people in place who do this. they would be his advisors and people who hold importatn positions within the adminitration. and he would appoint them. and they would only be privy to the info in their area, not review everything before telling potus, in case it sounded like that.
Gingrich is the front runner for a grand total of 10 hours and already the establishment (Karl Rove & Co.) has a hit piece on him:
Alexander Burns posts an apparently anonymous email being circulated among conservatives bashing Newt Gingrich as too liberal for the G.O.P.:
Fellow Conservatives I urge all of to take a hard look at the real Newt Gingrich. Take 10 minutes of your time to read this email and pass it around as we can't afford another faux president.
The Newt Gingrich Files: Does he know where he stands?
MUST KNOW QUOTES
• Gingrich: “There Are Parts Of The DREAM Act That Are Actually Quite Useful.” (“Newt And Callista Gingrich On Al Punto With Jorge Ramos,” Newt.org, 10/13/10)
• In A 2007 Interview With PBS, Gingrich Came Out In Favor Of A Cap And Trade System, Saying “It’s Something I Would Strongly Support.” (PBS’ “Frontline,” 4/24/07)
[...]
The email goes on in that vein, hitting Gingrich again on immigration and energy issues, and closing with a shot at his past support of an individual mandate.
• Fortune: “Gingrich Favors National [Healthcare] Legislation Similar To The Law That Romney Pushed Through In Massachusetts.” “[Gingrich] favors national [healthcare] legislation similar to the law that Romney pushed through in Massachusetts, forcing individuals to buy health insurance just as they are required to purchase auto insurance—though providing some government assistance to those who can't afford it.” (Nina Easton, “The New Newt Thing,” Fortune Magazine, 2/5/07)
I just don't understand, in an America where I am always hearing how one's values are important and that the way in which one conducts one's personal affairs matters, that Mr. Gingrich gets a pass for walking out on a wife with cancer and cheating on her prior to that. He doubtless took a sacred vow to his former wife. One in which he promised to stand by her side "for better or for worse." I'm sorry, but I cannot get past walking out on someone to whom you made that promise before God while she is in the most dire, challenging time of her life. I don't want to hear a lot from someone who could do such a thing. Or from someone who was getting it in another woman at the same time.
Cheating happens and it alone cannot be a litmus test for office or we'd have no one in government I suppose. But these circumstances are so abjectly offensive that I for one cannot get past it. Professor was a perfect place for the man--not the halls of Washington. Maybe others are bigger believers in second acts than I am. I just don't think a leopard changes its spots that much. Isn't anyone appalled at this guy?
In my mind the top two choices for the Republicans are Gingrich and Romney. Despite the fact that Ron Paul has many legitimate and consistent points he's not going to carry an election. They should just appoint him the next head of the Federal Reserve. Romney is not a popular choice amongst hard core republicans who don't want another George W(who was not a fiscal conservative) and I think there's a legitimate concern Obama will crush him on health care. Gingrich is a brilliant thinker and debater but gets in trouble with things like expensive gifts for his wife and may not go over well with Centrists. Then you have Obama who handed over economic policy to a bunch of Clinton guys who helped create the mess we're in and plays politics 24/7 at the expense of governing, talks down to the American people, wants to negotiate with Iran, turn down jobs by building a legitimate pipeline and plays capitalist and loses with loans to Solyndra. Anything could happen.
Its fascinating that one can convince themselves the "the mess we're in" is the result of "a bunch of Clinton guys" and that 8 years of George W has nothing to do with it. The is some magnificent selective perception.
Under Bill Clinton we had two monumental repeals of legislation, the ending of Glass Stegal and the deregulation of derivatives. Anything done under Bush was just icing on the cake at that point.
very selective perception. 8 years followed Clinton. 8 years. whatever he did, 8 YEARS FOLLOWED for God's sake. that's a long time to be ineffectual and to do nothing to stop the alleged seeds of armageddon. and yet, with just 2.8 years in office, it's all this president's fault that the world isn't fixed. the rationalizations are amazing. it is exactly how those doomsday cult leaders get people to continue to follow them even after the world doesn't end on a predicted date. exactly the same kool aid.
It takes a while for greed to get out of control. Minsky economics took a few years. Look how long it took Europe to blow itself up?
After a Romney Deal, Profits and Then Layoffs
But an examination of the Dade deal, which Mr. Romney approved and presided over, shows the unintended human costs and messy financial consequences behind the brand of capitalism that he practiced for 15 years.
At Bain Capital’s direction, Dade quadrupled the money it owed creditors and vendors. It took steps that propelled the business toward bankruptcy. And in waves of layoffs, it cut loose 1,700 workers in the United States, including Brian and Christine Shoemaker, who lost their jobs at a plant in Westwood, Mass. Staggered, Mr. Shoemaker wondered, “How can the bean counters just come in here and say, Hey, it’s over?”
Mr. Romney’s career at Bain Capital, which he owned and ran as chief executive, is a cornerstone of his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination — a credential, he argues, that showcases the management skills and business acumen that America needs to revive a stalled economy. Creating jobs, Mr. Romney says, is exactly what he knows how to do.
The White House, though, is already preparing a less flattering portrayal, trying to frame Mr. Romney’s record at Bain as evidence that he would pursue slash and burn economics and that his business career thrived by enriching the elite at the expense of the working class.

When Bill Clinton was President most people could rent or buy an apartment in Manhattan...now only the rich and very rich can do so and that's because of the policies of George Bush..everything he did while in office hurt the American people and the world!!
One can only conclude that the Republicans are deliberately trying to lose in 2012, just like the Democrats deliberately lost in 2004.
I'll tie this really nicely. Does anyone remember who pushed for the repeal of Glass-Steagall? I'll give you a hint: he's a great thinker who took a contract on America. The end.
>Clinton and only caught him in a little white lie?
Clinton came on television and in front of the entire citizenry, made a bald faced lie.
Then he pardoned Marc Rich.
Now I'm all feeling the Clinton as wise grandpa thing he's got going on now, and I have the nostalgia for back 20 years ago, but let's not whitewater it all.
oops, I meant whitewash.
>When Bill Clinton was President most people could rent or buy an apartment in Manhattan...now only the rich and very rich can do so and that's because of the policies of George Bush..everything he did while in office hurt the American people and the world!!
It was even cheaper during Nixon.
>Riversider in your opinion - which is worse lying about cheating on your wife or lying about reasons to start a war with a country that never attacked us.
Which country never attacked us? I recall that Iraq tried to assasinate a former United States President. That seems like an attack, so we must be talking about a different country that never attacked us.
Very good point maly. He's also recently said that repeal was a mistake.
By the way ,the original bill was supposed to force banks to issue subordinated debt to act as a canary in the mine.. Who did away with that?
Besides the perpetually ridiculous name 'aboutready' and the ass backward name 'columbiacounty', I'd have to say that 'User_Usertofferson' is the most absurd name on Streeteasy.
Just looked it up. Grahmm Leach did require the issuance of Subordinatd debt which would have imposed market discipline on the big banks, but Treasury (under Clinton) nixed it.
Where did you look it up?
Probably in the Columbia County Public Library.
Look, they are now online! http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ny/county/columbia/library/index.htm
And here's a gem on the history of columbiacounty:

CHAPTER XI
Pages 81 to 112
DISTINGUISHED MEN OF COLUMBIA COUNTY.
The county of Columbia has always been remarkable for the very large number, among her natives and residents, of men who have risen to high places of distinction. It is claimed---and, as we believe, without the possibility of successful contradiction---that there is not in the State of New York, nor indeed within the United States, a county of equal size which is able to boast of a roll so brilliant.
This county has produced a President and a Vice-President of the United States; Secretaries of War and of he Treasury; Senators and Secretaries of State, both of the United States and of the Sate of New York; Ministers Plenipotentiary to foreign courts; governors; judges; and many civil officers of scarcely less exalted station, as well as military and naval heroes.
So...riversider. Your alter ego speaks.
The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999 required the Fed and
Treasury to consider that approach in the form of a subordinated
debt requirement. A Fed report (Board of Governors 1999) showed
that substantial research favored this approach, but lobbying from
the big banks to avoid discipline encouraged Treasury Secretary
Lawrence Summers and Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan to kill this
promising idea

"When Bill Clinton was President most people could rent or buy an apartment in Manhattan...now only the rich and very rich can do so and that's because of the policies of George Bush..everything he did while in office hurt the American people and the world!!"
Is this a joke post?
Hey Riversider the bill that you claim as Clinton's Fault is called Graham
Leach Biley, what political party do those 3 writers of the bill that repealed Glass Steigal belong to?
I think it should have read Richard Nixon.
User_Usertofferson - what is your former handle? Just got to make sure we are keeping score correctly. And stop butchering the name of the bill and the repeal of Glass Steagall. Glass Steagall was effectively repealed by Treasury under Clinton but its original indoctrination was through congress. Let me know if you need any more help on this one, counselor.
Rangersfan - you are citing the most dishonest statement repeatedly vomited by those on the right. Your answer is the height of hypocrisy.
Why will you not answer the question? Who wrote the bill that repealed Glass Steagall? It is an easy answer the bill is named after the guys who wrote it. What political party are they from?
I will answer your question. This is my first and only handle.
Republicans show that they do not support the results of their own policy when they spit out BS "Clinton signed the act that repealed Glass Steagall." However the FACTS are:
Respective versions of the legislation were introduced in the U.S. Senate by Phil Gramm (Republican of Texas) and in the U.S. House of Representatives by Jim Leach (R-Iowa). The third lawmaker associated with the bill was Rep. Thomas J. Bliley, Jr. (R-Virginia), Chairman of the House Commerce Committee from 1995 to 2001.
During debate in the House of Representatives, Rep. John Dingell (Democrat of Michigan) argued that the bill would result in banks becoming "too big to fail." Dingell further argued that this would necessarily result in a bailout by the Federal Government.
The House passed its version of the Financial Services Act of 1999 on July 1, 1999, by a bipartisan vote of 343-86 (Republicans 205–16; Democrats 138–69; Independent 0–1),two months after the Senate had already passed its version of the bill on May 6 by a much-narrower 54–44 vote along basically-partisan lines (53 Republicans and 1 Democrat in favor; 44 Democrats opposed).
User, its okay, you can stop foaming now. I am not vomiting anything at the moment although your posts typically get me to the point of dry heaving. Listen, right, left or center the effective repeal of Glass Steagall was put in motion by the Treasury and the Federal Reserve under the Clinton administration.
If you are asking if it was originally a republican sponsored bill, why yes. There, you got me. Getting excited again?! But make no mistake, much to your chagrin, the original bill and the effective complete eradication of the wall between commericial and investment banking was completely orchastrated by the departments under Clinton that went far beyond the original bill. You can begin your shrill again....
and it would be great if you really disclose your former handle but hey, i didn't expect you had the ballz.
Rangersfan - again you lie. Are you not proud of the policy of the Republican party? Why must you try to push the blame to Democrats for an Act written by, named after, and voted on in partisan manner by Republicans?
Did the Treasury FORCE Gramm Leach and Biley to write this act and put their name on it? Did the treasury force all the Republicans to vote in favor of it and simultaneously tell the Democrats to vote against it?
Here is the height of Republican A-holery " the original bill and the effective complete eradication of the wall between commericial and investment banking was completely orchastrated by the departments under Clinton"
Yeah - it was the departments under Clinton that made the Republicans write and name a bill after themselves.
Just admit that the Act was and still is a core part of the Republican platform. Otherwise you are completely exposed as a partisan idiot.
sorry, just reciting the facts. you should look at the case law and legislative and regulatory process under this law before you start spewing your bs. you no doubt have that access given your esteemed position - crack a book. you might actually get some insights on this before you continue spouting.
classic douchebagry and demagougory.
see you cant even admit that it was Republicans that wrote it, name it after themselves and voted for it.
You must be so proud of the policies of your party!
You are so ashamed of the results of your parties policies that you are trying to make the Democrats the deregulators and the Republicans the paarty of regulation. Hah too funny.
whats your point? are you "outing" me as a republican? Fail. connecting repeal of Glass-Steagall as the impetus for the financial crisis in 2008? Blaming republicans for the all the ills of the world? Disavowing what actually happened at Treasury and Federal Reserve under Clinton? Insisting your panties arent all bunched up right now or in that forever chronic state? forget to take your meds?
all of the above?
oh, lest i forget.....OCCUPY STREETEASY!!!
"OCCUPY STREETEASY!!!"
well...all those hobos recently evicted from zuccotti park DO need a place to crash...you could really make this happen, you know. not that that would be a nice or even reasonable thing to do. but i bet if you just herded them in the direction of se offices, some of them would eventually make it there. you'd need a cattle prod, of course, but that's only like $20.
no, no, no lucille. THIS movement will stay focussed and on point. OCCUPY STREETEASY will not rest until the alans, aboutreadys, w67ths and hell even bottoms are freed. we already saved swe so the cause has some momentum.
we will even include rhino and huntersburg and cc. sorry, hones cant be saved. anyway, i say FREE the 1% so that some form of logic and informed discourse can prevail. if they grey inonada, then the revolution begins in earnest!
OCCUPY STREETEASY!!!
or else these boards will be left to the likes of User and his ilk. and the misinformation and pablam will continue....
What misinformation have I spread? Seems like you are the one who is on record above as trying to spread misinformation.
Again another example of your hypocrisy.
It is very obvious that you are scared of OWS, its success and its message.
You need to spread lies in order to make yourself feel better about your positions and to try and get your side to win...but.. you are failing.
'What misinformation have I spread?"
that clinton was impeached for getting a blowjob and that a sitting POTUS has intentionally made statements he knew to be false.
hmmmmm, what side might that be User?? What lies?
I do not fear OWS, unless its a new STD that is now roaming amongst us....
You sir, are another thing. Classic demegogue. A eunuch who needs to be liberated. Good luck with that....
Clinton did get impeached for lying about a blow job (FACT)
Bush either lied intentionally or his entire administration was completely inept (FACT)
Neither is misinformation. Maybe it makes you feel better about your party to think that the Bush administration didnt lie and that they were just completely inept (attacking a country for having WOMD and there werent any)
"Perjury, also known as forswearing, is the willful act of swearing a false oath or affirmation to tell the truth"

this is lie you keep refering to.
"The crime of obstruction of justice, in United States jurisdictions, refers to the crime of interfering with the work of police, investigators, regulatory agencies, prosecutors, or other (usually government) officials."
this is more than lies, this is actions.

i need to go and meet with my divorce attorney now. to be continued.
Hey, User, I mean eUnuch - do tell us what is your area of focus in law? constitutional law? think not. public policy? oh vey. securities law? not with your bastardization of Glass Steagall. criminal law? starting to dry heave again. my guess, your are so full of it that you couldnt have even attained your degree online.
"i need to go and meet with my divorce attorney now" - your husband is a lucky man (now)
i thought so......
RangersFan I will answer your questions when you answer the one I asked you above "who wrote the act that repealed Glass Steagall?"
Also again rangersfan this is my original handle - I have no idea who eUnuch is. Will you answer my simple question?
listen, Eunuch - I already answered your self-evident question in a previous posting. Catch up!!
Now, back to matters at hand. OCCUPY STREETEASY!!!
"your husband is a lucky man (now)"
that may or may not be true, but if my husband saw this thread he would not welcome your bro solidarity. he would say you're a braindead retard and demand to know why i was so easy on you. lucille is really the soft and cuddly bluth.
Ha!
Unite the country? Really? Are you kidding? He has got to be the most loathsome little turd to walk the planet. Seems that most of the discussion above is about old sex and perjury issues with regard to Clinton and the Newtster, although with the latter has anyone mentioned his MAJOR, MAJOR hypocrisy? Anyway, it's all moot because he's just the flavor of the month as the Repugnican base thrashes about looking for anyone, anyone but Romney -- who will be their nominee in the end, by default.
Eye of newt, and toe of frog...
"Over at Mother Jones, David Corn discovers that like the Newt Gingrich of three years ago, the former speaker’s for-profit think tank, the Center for Health Transformation (CHT), also promotes the individual health insurance mandate...
...Gingrich first backed the concept in 1993, “I am for people, individuals — exactly like automobile insurance — individuals having health insurance and being required to have health insurance,” he said on Meet the Press. He supported the idea in 2007 — writing in a Des Moines Register op-ed, “Personal responsibility extends to the purchase of health insurance. Citizens should not be able to cheat their neighbors by not buying insurance” — and again in 2008: “Finally, we should insist that everyone above a certain level buy coverage (or, if they are opposed to insurance, post a bond).” ...""
http://thinkprogress.org/health/2011/11/17/370892/newt-gingrich-and-the-individual-mandate/
Yes - the Republicans are pissed about Obama's health care plan so their 2 top candidates have either supported the plan like Newt or actually implemented a state wide exactly similar plan - Mitt.
They are also pissed about Fannie and Freddie "causing' the melt down - so their leading candidate Newtie was a consultant advising Freddie Mac on homeownership expansion.
more hypocrisy!
Do you support the estate tax? Or is that the exact opposite of what your wealth management clients want?
@ jason.
it actually makes some sense(ignoring what ever consitutionality argument exists) to require everyone to have health insurance. I think where Obama messed up was in treating health care as issue #1 ahead of the ecnomy and not following the swiss model more doing basic(regulated) & premium (non-regulated). it's also rediculous that health insurance is tied to emloyment.
peterfitz rampaging again in his big floppy shoes and exploding necktie. i can distinctly hear the ringling brothers song in the background as he places whoopie cushions on the chairs.
Agree
Here is what WOULD have constitutional, gurenteed.
1) Tax everyone's first dollar of income 100% up to say $2,000 OR cut the first $2,000 in refundable tax credits and/or benifits to zero and
2) give everyone a $2,000 tax credit if they have health insurance.
