RangersFan - do you ever add anything of substance to the conversation? or do you just call people names and try to tie them to other posters?

It would be nice if you would stop personal attacks and try to add something of substance. Just try using your intelligence instead of the lizard side of your brain.

OCCUPY STREETEASY!!!!

I'm still hoping for an explanation of education technology. To me it sounds like Solyndra. Something that will be promoted via politics, supported by skimming from the government, and benefit no one except for the owners, management, and the politicians.

"Republicans are pissed about Obama's health care plan so their 2 top candidates have either supported the plan like Newt or actually implemented a state wide exactly similar plan - Mitt."

"Newtie was a consultant advising Freddie Mac on homeownership expansion."

so...YOUR problem with the 2 republican front runners is that they are closet centrists? and in fact have a fairly accommodating history wrt the agenda YOU support? would you say that's accurate?

usertofferson is in the estate planning business, helping the top 10% of the top 1% pass money on with minimal taxes to create trust fund babies. I find that type of Democrat amusing, especially when they are so rabid. Makes you wonder, are they Democrats, or have they figured out the best scam to be a wolf in sheep's clothing? Not so different from the union leaders who skim off of their members.

all politicians are. they say and do what they have to to keep their job, which they do either for money or ego. no altruistic idealists ever get far enough in their political career to gain national recognition. altruistic idealists never get far in any career, for that matter. because they tend to be crazy and not play well with others.

banishment? what banishment?

streeteasy made several people grey. They can still be here.

Aboutready is just a quitter. She was on Brick Underground. That's a moderated forum. But she couldn't survive there either and quit. But then again, maybe she didn't want to be there because she had no one to attack.

Streeteasy was "dumbed down" because no one new could come by, and part of the reason (certainly not all) was the attacks that would come flying by older posters against newer posters who had a point of view that differed. You are a rangers fan - you are used to a fight, as am I, but not everyone wants one when they are looking for advice and information.

hb, if most of the folks here are looking for advice and information then you have made my point for me. listen, i dont think i would have ever gone to lunch with ar or ever had a sidecar with alan. in fact, i had many disagreements with them on fundamental issues. BUT, as far as insights and knowledge about nycre, the have greyed out the best posters. that includes, rhino (who is an ahole) and many others.

lots of thin skinned peeps around here, have some ballz and stand up if need be but like i said, now we have guys like petrfitz dominating threads. give me a break.

Really, a blowhard who basically says that real estate is too expensive because of the financing bubble, and then says it over and over and overagain. How is repeating the same thing over and over make him one of the "best posters"?

>listen, i dont think i would have ever gone to lunch with ar or ever had a sidecar with alan. in fact, i had many disagreements with them on fundamental issues. BUT, as far as insights and knowledge about nycre

alan could actually suggest ways to renovate or maintain your apartment. aboutready could tell you how to call the super.

want to see the type of contribution aboutready would make, check this thread: http://streeteasy.com/nyc/talk/discussion/17818-80-carpet-rules

and the summary of aboutready's posts nicely put together by jsmith:

i pray to god every night that newt gingrich is the republican nominee. romney is a serious person and a strong candidate and obama would have a fight on his hands. newt gingrich? please.

btw, the ridiculous meme that he is some brilliant thinker is laughable. his early career consisted of 8 years as a junior professor at west georgia college--not exactly a plum academic position--and even this shitty school denied him tenure. he published not even one significant academic book or article. but he considers himself a serious historian.

he's the sort of boorish person who is so utterly convinced of his own brilliance that by sheer force of will he can convince dumb people that he really is incredibly smart. he's not.

This is the best part. The things he says about himself - most of which are youtube - make him seem like he is the bastard lovechild of Lincoln, Washington, Teddy Roosevelt, Adam Smith, Herodotus, Locke, Edward Gibbon, Reagan, and Jesus, all mixed up in Margret Thatcher's egg. He speaks of himself that highly. Its hilarious.

romney obviously has the strongest chance of winning the nomination--lucille's self-congratulations notwithstanding, everyone recognizes that he's the front runner. but it's also obvious that he doesn't have it sown up. at this point four years ago john mccain appeared to have almost no chance at the nomination--surely less of a chance than romney. it's a classic mistake to claim, as lucille does, that something is "certain" when it is merely probable, and then to claim to be brilliant when the thing that probably will happen actually happens.

that said, i weep at the spectacle of the republican campaign so far. is this really the best one of our two major parties can put forward? and people like herman cain, michelle bachmann, rick perry, newt gingrich, and ron paul can actually garner significant support? i'm no fan of mitt romney but at least he's a serious person.

im only self congratulating myself because a brilliant and clearly stunningly beautiful poster also by the name of lucille said this some time ago. and "everyone" most certainly does not recognize romney as the front runner, as obviously demonstrated by the very existence of this here thread about NEWT GINGRICH.

Go Newt!

http://www.politico.com/blogs/media/2012/01/the-john-kingnewt-gingrich-exchange-111596.html

“Your ex-wife gave an interview to ABC News, another interview with ‘The Washington Post,’ and this story has now gone viral on the Internet,” King said. “She says you came to her in 1999 at a time when you were having an affair. She says you asked her [for] an open marriage. Would you like to take some time to respond to that?”

“No, but I will,” Gingrich shot back, causing the audience to erupt with applause. “I think the destructive vicious negative nature of much of the news media makes it harder to govern this country, harder to attract decent people to run for public office. I’m appalled you would begin a presidential debate on a topic like that.”

I agree with the last sentence but the rest is a bit rich coming from Newt Gingrich whose PAC just released a "desctructive, vicious, negative" swiftboating video on Mitt Romney. Unless of course he is using a broader definition of media...

what a dope...runs his continual family values line of shit, and then resents a reality check...and now we get to hear his pontificating about the despicable media...least he'll leave despicable gays alone for a bit

by any standard his treament of his own family defines despicable...but he's just the next gop douche

pack of morons they are

I honestly didn't know that two of the three times he proposed he was married to other women. I find that unacceptable in a President. That kind of character flaw doesn't just go away. At least I'm not so confident it can change that I'm willing to risk the Presidency on it. I can't believe a man who has conducted himself like this is even being considered.

I find it unacceptable in a HUMAN BEING.

I get that different couples have different arrangements that work for them. Personally, I never understood the "open marriage" concept, but if it makes both parties happy, then I say do what you will, as long as you're not hurting anyone.

Newt wanting an open marriage doesn't bother me. What DOES bother me, however, is his lying about it and trying to cover it up while publicly spouting his sanctimonious moralizing about "family values" and the "defense" of marriage.

Too much criticism here of the man who brought us the Contract with America. This contract brought us The Personal Responsibility Act. Need I say more?

Newt is STILL campaigning on the idea that we NEED to teach MORAL values to poor people (read black people) or else they will stay impoverished. Fuck him.

It's probably no mistake that this turd is named Newt; he's a despicable human being. It's rich that these moralizing, sanctimonious morons want to defend marriage; the heterosexuals are doing a wonderful job destroying it all by their fool selves. People are stupid.

Gingrich claims he has admitted to wrongs in the past so we should move on. But he has never described what those wrongs were so far as I know. How do we know exactly what he understands he did wrong? Americans are pretty good at handing out second chances, but only after a full laying bare of one's erros along with degree of humility and contrition. All we see in this guy is anger that anyone dares to discuss the fact that he obviously took vows and then broke them. Won't he have to take an oath of office if elected--what guarantee can he offer that he won't break that promise? Why won't he discuss all this completely openly and stop being so insulted that intelligent people may actually have concerns about his record in conducting his personal affairs?

And not for nothing, but the very idea of a First Lady being a woman who carried on with a married man for years digusts me.

What do you think, is Callista shtumping the hairdresser? Whoever that person is, they obviously never leave her side. What particularly galls me is that our good ol' boy Newt walked out on his wife after a diagnosis of a catastrophic illness; he's a real fine fellow. Newt may or may not have admitted to wrongs in the past but he has never been on such a big stage & under such a bright light so we certainly should be discussing this issue. People will believe what they want to believe but taking Newt's (or any candidate's) measure is what this process is all about.

Why POTUS & Mittens are afraid of Newt
--------------------
FT coined it beautifully---
------------------------------------

Mr Romney is smooth and competent but Mr Gingrich has something that his competitor lacks – a capacity to articulate and echo the anger of the conservative electorate.

At least among Republicans, Mr Gingrich is so battle-scarred that no matter what dirt is thrown at him – even the fact that his ex-wife said he wanted an “open marriage” – it no longer sticks.

Mr Gingrich is also twice the natural politician that Mr Romney is, and was able to tailor his message on the campaign trail in South Carolina to rouse that state’s voters.

The republicans should be shooting for vanilla, instead...they choose rocky road.

If you think the President is afraid of Newt, you've been ingesting a lot of crack with your cream cheese. Newt is the best thing to happen to Democrats because his nationwide numbers among independent voters and women, as well as his overall negative numbers, are horrendous. Even if he does not get the nomination, he has bloodied Romney in a way that can only help the Democrats. The Republicans are so desperate now that they are courting Jeb Bush and considering a "brokered" convention. The only way this could get better is for Palin to jump in the race.

Falcon, I'll take a stab and assume your voting Democrat ,true?
Reason I say this, is that Romney will not have an easy time showing how he's different than Obama. It starts with Health Care.

I doubt he is able to do much of anything that is physical "suddenly." Roll, yes. Suddenly, no.

Romney has to survive the primaries before the real fight begins.
The trick will be getting all these disparate righties under one tent without burning it down.
Obama could win a second term on republican implosion.
At this very moment my vote is rudderless.
I loved Cain, mostly 'cause I like to laugh.
I liked Huntsman 'cause I like those sexy daughters.
I can't vote foe Newt 'cause he's a psycho right wing philander wing nut ( and I type that with great respect).
Paul is well .........let's just say......unrealistic and leave it at that.
That leaves me with Richy Rich, Dudly Doright and Joseph Smith all rolled into one.
Those greying temples look very presidential.

That is pretty much where I stand too... Hoping Paul will eventually pull for Richy rick, but he is too interested in getting his message/ideas out there. A very good message on which they should heed. But,Romney is the best chance we have. No dispespect to Bam, but hes got to go.
