Discussion about
any statistics on how shoddy construction affects the long term health of a condo? from what i'm being told, a huge number of new developments built in the past 5+ years have had to have repairs/major construction done by the developer for leaks, warped floorboards, etc. if one was to buy into a resale at one of these places (assuming major repairs had been done, and the building is now a few years old), how confident should one be that these kinds of issues won't recur? has it actually become an exception to the norm when a new building is built, sold, and has NO major issues? anyone have horror stories to share about buying into a new construction or a resale "new" condo? mold, leaks, sewage?
Poor construction adds to the cost of upkeep. As far as the newer buildings, the ned of the real estate boom saw developers with little or no experience entering the market, so would avoid buildings put up with developers without the long term track record. Where it was egregious I would look up lawsuits.
It's unfair to tar all new construction with the same brush. There are new buildings that were done to the highest of standards.
