Discussion about
I live in a non regulated apartment. My lease expires on December 1st, but I wasn't sent a lease renewal until Nov 1. I was under the impression that I am entitled to 60 days notice for a lease renewal, but I'm not sure if that's just standard practice or if it is required by law. Would I be able to demand to stay in the apartment an extra 30 days at the current rent given the lack of proper notice?

No and you are just looking to make an enemy out of your landlord. Not a smart move. You can however, try and negotiate the increase if you wish to stay.

I don't think the landlord is required to give you any notice, unless otherwise specified in the lease. They can simply ask you to leave at the end of your current lease if they want; they don't have to offer you a renewal at all.

There's been no "lack of proper notice". You should have taken the initiative and inquired yourself if you believed you were owed a renewal 60 days out (which you were not). Why did you wait? To try to push the landlord into giving you a free month? Come on.

How much $ or % are we talking about anyway if you were to get your way and get an extra 30 days at the old rent?

If the landlord doesn't renew your lease do they need to tell the tenant at all. What if they don't?

Just received our renewal lease. They are increasing our rent 6.85%. My neighbor on the same floor was only increased 1.85%. What gives on the different percentages. Shouldn't every tenants increase be the same.

You ask everyone as high a rate as you can. Some will push back, others will not. You take what you can get. Maybe your neighbors were coming off an incentive, maybe they have an understanding with the LL from last year that a 6.85% would never fly so the LL needn't bother.
