07/02/2008Previously Listed by Prudential Elliman at $1,935,000.

I don't even want to take the time to state what I see. It's pretty obvious. Elliman? Hmmmmmmm. I see a pattern. OP, wouldn't be surprised if the final sale is just what you post. I imagine that a board in a building of this magnatude would be uncomfortable over that "F" word. My take is that an owner or board member might snatch it up in the eleventh hour.

I was looking at the other thread about "June is here" and all that chopping when I remembered this chestnut and decided to check in. It's in contract and I can't wait to see the final price. I would say that someone got a deal with more than $1M off the Elliman attempt. I still wonder who bought it; outsider, board member or another owner? Oh, and no mansion tax. It just keeps getting better!

It did indeed seem to be bank-owned and foreclosed.

This is a bank-owned foreclosed property. Hotel des Artistes is one of the few prewar co-op buildings in Manhattan that houses its own swimming pool, gym, and squash court.

I know I'm late to this thread, but It sold for 890k.
A two-bedroom at the Hotel des Artistes!
Granted it needed a ton of work, but still, what a bargain, even back then toward the bottom of the market.
It goes to show... bargains can be had.

Thanks for bringing this back. I forgot about the listing and agree that someone got a deal to put it mildly. With a decent paint job I am sure this would be a contender in today's market.
