What's a fair amount to be charged on top of monthly rent in a new rental building. I was under the impression the gym, pool and lounge should be part of the high rental in these new buildings. Is it per tenant or apt?
There's no rule, and no fair amount. Sometimes a building will use amenities to subsidize the rentals and obfuscate the pricing. If you are a renter, and the amenities are a-la-carte, then you need to decide if joining the building gym is a better deal than walking across the street and swimming at the Equinox gym etc. If the amenities are optional, then you need to decide if you use them and take apart the pricing.
Gym and pool are rarely free. however, at the time of signing the lease, many landlords will throw in discounted prices. In most cases, people like the convenience rather than having to brave the weather.
I've lived in rental buildings where access to the gym (usually small) and pool (for swimming laps) were included in your monthly rent and I've lived in rental buildings with larger sized gyms where you needed to pay to use that facility. What they should have in rental buildings is a children's playroom which I often have not seen in rental buildings and that also should be included in the rent.
Out of curiosity. How would you guys feel about a building that offers virtual personal assistants for all the residents, as an amenity and at not additional cost?
This assistant would handle all your day to day personal and lifestyle needs. Things like sourcing/vetting pet car needs, searching/booking flights, special date reminders (girlfriend/wife's birthday) and buying that special gift, post office runs, vacation planning...you name it, an assistant to take care of everything you don't have time to do your self.
Is this an amenity that any of you would be open to or no? Would love to hear your thoughts.
