Discussion about
I'm looking at buildings that allow washer/dryer in units. When doing the plumbing for the washer, do you just run it off the sink plumbing, similar to how a dishwasher is hooked up, or do new turn-off valves and drains have to be installed back to the risers?

Oh, and what's a ballpark estimate of each scenario, assuming washer would be installed in kitchen next to sink. Thanks

You'll need new turn-off valves and drains.

They make a special valve just for washers now that's more like an on/off switch so you're encouraged to turn off the water supply between uses (hoses can burst at any time, so why take a chance).

Hoses don't burst. They leak. Most of the hoses in my house are close to 10 years old and work fine.

Your building might also require a pan and an auto shutoff (alarm). Even if they don't you should have one anyway

Thanks. Primer, do you have a ballpark figure on the set-up?

"Hoses don't burst."

They most assuredly do. It's not often, but they do.

Gcondo,

Sorry. Today you are wrong.

Emma,

It depends on different variables. What are the walls made out of (sheetrock is cheaper than plaster) How close is it to a water supply? Is it self venting (I assume it would be) or is it going to vented outside?

I would say roughly anywhere from:$3,000-$5,000.00 that includes patching and painting the walls as well.
