Here's Forbes.com's top 10 Most Miserable Cities list for 2011: We looked at 10 factors for the 200 largest metro areas and divisions in the U.S. Some are serious, like violent crime, unemployment rates, foreclosures, taxes (income and property), home prices and political corruption. Other factors we included are less weighty, like commute times, weather and how the area’s pro sports teams did.... [more]

I can't believe that Chicago is on that list! Great city, theater, chefs..... I must admit that, while I spend about 6 weeks/yr or more there for work, I have never spent time there in the winter.

How in the world can they put FLL, MIA and PBI on the worst list?

Ridiculous.

Chicago, oh no. Poor Rufus. Does this mean he will be moving back to New York?

new2RE: You don't want to be in Chicago during the winter.

As jason pointed out, there's a big problem with crime. Probably less street crime in the winter.

The FLorida cities have had huge home price declines, high unemployment, and much higher crime than average. Also lower than average wages (for big cities).

If you can afford Star Island or a penthouse in Sobe, but this is not "the best cities to be rich in."

Hi Truth. I was there in late April last year and it felt like winter in NY - but this certainly was not the norm I really didn't think crime was that much of an issue in Chicago. I definitely get why FL cities are on the list

Since when is Forbes' audience focused on the unemployed who are underwater on their properties?

The Crime Rate is much higher in Chicago than in NYC, your observations aside. I would rather rely on FBI stats.

Been in Miami Beach since Christmas. Hard to leave, that's how miserable it is down here. Dinner at Jean George Grill last night, brunch today at Nikki Beach. Temperatures in the high 70's, low 80's. It's really bad down here! Don't come.

The list Miami NOT "Miami Beach". Beachfront real estate in Miami Beach has rebounded nicely.

Right. Miami Beach is a nice area in Miami-Dade. I assume similar for comments on Chicago above.

I am still here in Miami Beach since Christmas as well and it is busy with possibly the best winter they have seen yet. Certain friends of mine make remarks about Miami, but they never get down here becuase they're too busy complaining in and about New York. The best part of being here is being with people who like where they are. That works for me.

New2: It's still c-c-cold in Chicago in April. The crime ruins an otherwise great town.

I like Miami. I think I saw NYRENewbie and Bill twisting by the pool last month.
