Discussion about
I'm starting my hunt for a 1 br rental in the Columbus Circle / Midtown West vicinity rental (bordering Lincoln Center to the north, 9th or 10th to the west --not all the way to the river, 54th St to the south, and 5th/Park to the east). I'd like to spend as little as possible but I want nice/amenities/excellent mgmt and subway/walking convenient. Good kitchen is a particular plus. Prefer no "dorm... [more]

I am an owner in the Parc Vendome, and I believe my tenant is very happy there. It's a full-service prewar condo with excellent amenities (though no gym).

So I'd suggest looking there (there are four buildings in the complex, two on 56th and two on 57th) although you will have to 1) put together an application package and 2) depending on the time of year, you might have to go up from $3500 for a 1-BR.

The Colonnade (across 57th St from the Parc Vendome) is a condo that offers many rentals as well. You can find a 1-BR for under $3,500 there, though generally lower floors or older renovations.

Prefer no "dorm room" vibe.

Avoid rental buildings.. go for boutique condo buildings frbo

Sorry ss400k, but I disagree. There are plenty of higher end rentals that don't have a "dorm room" vibe (Related buildings, for instance) and I've also sometimes had some trouble dealing with repairs, mgmt etc at FRBO condo buildings. It's a case-by-case not a categorical thing. Why I asked for info about specific buildings rather than for general observations.

In any event, thanks all for the above input everyone. Much appreciated. For any further recommendations (please keep 'em coming!), please note that I'm not a fan of the Colonnade (have heard bad things and don't want, as enfuego puts it, a lower floor, old reno). The Nicole seems to be worth a look. I would love input about the Brodsky buildings and others closer to Columbus Circle/Lincoln Center.

I live in One Columbus Place and have been very happy. They are responsive and maintain the building well. We live on a very high floor with 9.5' ceilings and a terrace overlooking Central Park. Not much to complain about.

We live in the Brodsky building at 75 West End. Love our location and management is very receptive to maintenance requests, etc. Don't know that it's quite as luxe as some of the other buildings mentioned and the gym is an additional fee, but there is a pool once you're a member. The staff is very warm and we get great light and views. All in all, we are very happy here.

Check out 442 West 57th - it's between 9th and 10th on 57th... 2 blocks from Columbus Circle.
