Discussion about
I need to do a lot of painting (building hallways) and two apartments and would like to do it myself. I am considering buying one of those commerical paint sprayers (one in the $500 range). I am considering buying as opposed to renting because this is for rental properties and I am probably going to have to paint other apartments every few years. Does anyone have an opinion on paint sprayers or a recommendation? Do they really save time compared to rollers? Are there any problems with them I should know?

I really haven't had experience with them but I would think that if you don't know what you're doing, you could really make a huge mess; so practice, practice, practice in a garage or something before you run amok inside your rental property.

nintzk,

Drdrd is right. I would not just buy one with no experience and hope for good results

Thanks

Let me rephrase my question though. When you hire a professional painter to paint an entire apartment (assume empty) or a building hallway...so a lot of square feet..., do these companies usually use rollers or paint sprayers. Also assume there is no complicated painting here...just a coat of primer and two coats of white paint.

Painters use roller for public area walls and ceiling.
Sometimes for saving the time they spray the paint or and roll over.
If you don't have experience with spraying you may end up with messed walls and floors.

If you want to save money and if you don't need best quality work get a individual painter and work for you daily base.

Nintzk,

Since you are going to gc this project yourself do not hire anyone with a daily base as you will get workings taking their time and might milk the job. Call several painters and go with who you are comfortable with. We usually use rollers. If we are doing a complete gut and skimming all the walls we might use a sprayer.
