Discussion about
Is there a standard height to install a medicine cabinet? I'm planning a minor renovation of the bathroom and I'm not sure where to recess it. Thanks.
Sorry - placed it in the wrong category but can't find a delete or move option on the forum.
Your family is of average height?
How high does the sink go?
How high is the cabinet?
How high is the ceiling in your bathroom?
The tallest person in your household needs to see head and shoulders.
If you are the only person then put it where you want.
I once stayed at a motel in Kasas City, Kansas. We were driving cross country.
My boyfriend took a shower on his knees because the showerhead was installed so low.
Now that would be a problem.
But tall people who visit you can scrunch down a bit to view themselves in your bathroom mirror.
Maybe people in Kansas are munchkin height. And the munchkins have reps from the Lollypop Guild.
I had a similar problem in Minnesota.
don't even get me started on minnesota!
When in doubt, put it higher. It's much better for shorter people to reach up a bit than it is for taller people to get back pain from bending forward all the time. Reaching up won't ruin your posture; slumping forward and downward will.
They come in different heights. Find out what they are and get the size that'll fit while still clearing the faucet below and any light fixture above.
Caution: Reaching up while toothbrushing can cause drowning.
Just bumping this to see if there is a consensus. My sink height is 36" and I have 8 foot ceilings. Faucet is only another 6" tall max. I've read that standard height from floor to bottom of medicine cabinet may be around 48". Medicine cabinet is 26" tall. My family is standard height -- no kids. Does 48" sound about right?
