Are there a lot of rentals out there that will offer a short-term lease of 6 months. If not, is it possible to negoitiate a 60 day cancellation clause?

Yes, possible to negotiate a 60 day cancellation clause if you have a good relationship with the apartment owner.
Also look at the Archstone complexes in midtown.

i am looking for someone to take over my lease, which runs through 11/30/08 (i.e. 6.5 months left on it). let me know if you are interested and i can send you the info...
