Discussion about
We live in a pre-war loft building. Does any one know what a standpipe violation is for the building? How much does it cost to fix? What is a standpipe test? How much should it cost? Also, how much does it cost to replace a sprinkler valve? Will appreciate being pointed in the right direction. Thanks.

You will need to hire an NYC-licensed fire suppression company (not just any old plumber); call an engineering firm too if you want professional advice/evaluation first. Expect to spend a few thousand dollars; more if the problems are more extensive.

This stuff is important to get right -- the sprinklers, fire hoses, and other fire safety stuff depend on the standpipe (it's a riser pipe of water for fire suppression systems, if that was unclear) being in unimpaired service.
