Yowza! Talk about views. Looks like he'll be taking a hit, though. http://streeteasy.com/nyc/sale/700239-coop-118-riverside-drive-upper-west-side-new-york http://www.nydailynews.com/life-style/real-estate/live-zoolander-funnyman-ben-stiller-lists-swanky-upper-west-side-manhattan-apartment-funny-400-000-loss-article-1.1138057
I heard Ben is selling for a loss because they never could get that 'Nova" smell out of the apartment...Think Kosher Bordello.
Looks like Roger De Bris' apartment in The Producers (original) - "white, white, white"....
Do Jerry & Anne still live near there?
I love the apartment ... that rare great job (except for lack of outdoor space). I wonder why their kid is selling ... ? I love the apartment.
Jerry and Anne live on the corner of West 84 and riverside (se corner).
Totally dig the media room
Yep--that media room is insane! I'm not a huge fan of the apartment's ultra-mod decor but what an incredible space. Really to die for.
it's also a little strange that the place goes on the market for less than the last sale esp. considering the reno. Wonder what the back story is?
Probably just a rumor, but I heard they're furious about Tavern on the Green reopening and are refusing to stay in the neighborhood.
I figured they're irate over the closing of Syms' Basement.
They were pretty mad about H&H closing, come to think of it.
He's done well since his Bromley days.
When it came down to choose between the high maintenance costs and his tab at Russ and Daughters, well you know how that went...
H&H closed because (in large part) Zabar's stopped buying their product when it got too expensive. It got to expensive because (in large part) H&H's landlord jacked up their rent tremendously. H&H's landlord is Zabar's.
It got *too* expensive, that is.
h&h closed because the store didn't pay taxes while stealing from its workers. The owners probably made out with lots of money in this scam..
According to authorities, Toro took deductions from his employees’ paychecks but failed to pay sales and other taxes. He also manipulated the unemployment-insurance tax system, using shell companies to transfer employees from one business to another in order to receive a lower rate. H & H filed city and state withholding tax returns under six different company names, according to authorities

and as we all know this contributed mightily to the terrible inflation caused by the spike in cream cheese prices.
I heard they didn't use real "everything" on their everything bagels
Anne and Jerry also live(d) in 118, #5AB. Ben's profile in the New Yorker the other week mentioned his buying there because of that.
You can't have everything. Where would you put it?
Rumor has it he had a knock-down fight with Jerry Seinfeld at Barney Greengrass a few weeks ago -- something about a slice of nova, but I didn't catch the details.
Funny stuff, The reason he is moving is he likes the village better. He never thought the place was "for him" at least thats what I am told
Even funnier, given that he grew up in that building.
I grew up on long island doesnt mean I dont like Manhattan more
I just ran by 110-118. I think he will get more than ask if the place lives up to the online pictures. I don't like the street aspect of 110-118. Despite the warm brick, looks uninteresting, monolithic from the park.
it is.
but, there are some really nice places there.
The apt layouts are superb, I'm a big fan of their double living rooms & Classic 6es (so is Krugman).
But, but, but - it's a singularly unimpressive full-block building.
would you rather have ben's place or 103 riverside?
columbiacounty, how did you like that apartment at 98 Riverside that you considered with the window in the shower?
CC: Can we recast that question? If I HAD to spend 10 bucks on a RSD apt, then neither. But between the 2, then 110 - but only because 103 has a terrible unfixable layout and no real outdoor space. I would choose an 18+ footer on the south side of 77 or north side of 76 between RSD and WEA above 110.
>I grew up on long island doesnt mean I dont like Manhattan more
Yeah, but I'm guessing that four years ago you didn't spend $10m to move your wife and kids 3000 miles to live in your childhood home.
You would guess right but i do know some people who spent more then 10% of their career earnings and 1/3 of their yearly earnings to buy a home and then sell it soon after. 10 Million is obviously a lot of money to almost everyone but when your worth over 100 million its really not that big of a deal
True -- especially when you have, like, three other homes ... and call always stay at mom & dad's on 84th street, anyway.
Yes. Almost all $10mm listings are by people who have $100mm in a cash account. By his logic all $2mm coop owners should have $20mm is a cash. $1mm owners should have $10mm in cash.
And the $500k owners have $5mm in cash.
Wonderful. It you have a $3mm studio on west42 and only have $1mm in cash..... No worries the RE gods will deposit $2mm more into your savings account any day now.
Any day now
Math was wrong. $29mm. Any day now.
So the liquid net worth of nyc is se listing prices for all units x 10. That's fking hilarious.
So, they bought in 2008, renovated it, are taking a loss at the *asking* price and we haven't even talked about transaction costs.
Who was it saying prices are up again?
And another one for the rent/buy calculation...
West 67th,
When did I say all people or most people. It is a fact that Ben Stiller has made over 100million in his career so taking a 400, 000 loss is not a big deal. Is any of that not a fact?
I didn't say anything about how much someone should or should not have to buy an apartment.
why do you think its only 400K?
Hey Primer, I have a project, I would like to install a window in my master bath shower. Is that possible? How much would it cost? I want to look out on the street and imagine I'm columbiacounty while I'm all lathered up.
Huntersburg,
You guys are funny.
Columbia,
I am going by the article in the Daily News
did that include transaction costs?
did that include renovation costs?
columbiacounty is always so proficient with numbers when it suits him. others, beware.
from the article:
"The Real Estalker, who first noticed the listing, points out that the price reduction isn't the only loss Stiller is likely to take on the place, considering they likely renovated the place."
you're the expert---how much do you figure they spent on the renovation? based on the figures you've provided on others, i'll throw out 500K.
lets assume 3% on the sale and 3% on the purchase in the way of transaction costs.
so....
400K + 500K + 300K + 291 K= $1,491 K loss assuming they get their asking price.
columbiacounty, how many lives have you ruined?
so...primer....they lived there since 2008...call it 60 months....$25 K per month on top of monthlies of 7K. hell of a deal.
columbiacounty, how many people are worse off because of you?
hunters burg is always so proficient with words when it suits him. others, beware.
catch up
hunters burg , how many lives have you ruined?
none
you?
columbiacounty? How many lives have you ruined?
you tell me.
you're the bullshit artist.
My bullshit may be art, but yours hurts other people.
who...dumb fuck.
who.
make it up.
make it good.
Deny, deny, deny. Deny more. Curse, spit, melt down, return, attack other people, deny, deny, deny again.
Columbia,
I did not say it was a good deal. My point is if a person has made over 100 million it really isn't a big deal. if it was he would just stay there. He is not selling because he has to
So a rich guy blew a large wad but small to him?
Agreed.
But why is that interesting or relevant?
If we went to Vegas and blew it in. A weekend, same thing.
Who cares?
No, no, no, columbiacounty needs to protect Ben Stiller. That's exactly what Ben Stiller needs - protection by columbiacounty.
You're delusional.
But what else is new?
uh oh, Ben Still lives on Riverside and can afford to blow $1-2MM. But columbiacounty visits a rental on Riverside, and ooops, window in the shower.
Let's do this your way.
Hunters burg is in a mental hospital.
It's nice here.
not really. but its understandable. keep up your spirits.
yes, my spirits are hidden in the litle nook I carved. The orderlies never find it.
make sure you take the evening meds. they will help. at some point.
They always do.
Those you've cheated and destroyed as collateral aren't so fortunate.
oh the delusions again. don't worry. the meds will kick in. it will all be ok.
Can I hum the Columbia County theme song?
warm milk will work as well. hang in there. it won't be much longer.
Columbia County and you, perfect together.
be careful. you never know what might happen.
Are you threatening me?
oh no. the delusions are starting again? get the doc immediately. this is a really bad sign. don't ignore this.
I think you just threatened me.
did you ring the bell for the staff? i urge you to do it. nothing to be ashamed about.
I don't think we can talk about anything else until this threat is addressed.
Threats are specifically against the terms of service.
what a shame. oh well, i tried.
What about your threat? Are you revoking it?
Threats don't just get swept under the rug.
"$25 K per month on top of monthlies of 7K. hell of a deal."
Remember, buying is *always* cheaper than renting.
