Front desk will not hold keys!

Can someone from Moinian explain why this terrible policy was put in place? Residents can't leave keys with the doorman, and the building now charges a $35 fee if you get locked out. I can understand the latter, but what's the point of paying for a doorman building when your doorman won't even hold keys? From Curbed: ... [more]

From the Curbed comments, it looks like this could have stemmed from a past mistake (doorman giving out the wrong keys by accident and a resident getting robbed as a result), but management is not treating the problem by eliminating the keys service all together. What they need to do, if security is the main concern here, is to ask residents to sign a release form that allows the doorman to give out keys to designated individuals (e.g. housekeeper, dogwalker, friend visiting from out of town etc,) and then have the doorman check ID when the key is picked up to make sure the person is who they say they are. All good doorman buildings do this. Moinian/elliman is really pissing me off with their incompetence.

That is actually the only value I find doormen have. I give them mine when I go for jogs, frequently lock myself out...

Does anyone have good advice on how we can ask the management company to change the policy?

Write a letter to them with the suggested option you described in your comment.
Have your neighbors sign it and then fax it over to the managing agent.

Are you an alcoholic, "truth." because i've never observed someone more obsessed with the consumption of alcohol by others, especially someone so "close" to so many people in the performing arts. i've got to think you're projecting.

What's the history with you guys that you disrupt this fantastic thread about problems at 90 Washington Street?

By the way, when exactly, separate from Battery Park City, did the financial district become a residential area? What happened to Wall Street? Next someone's going to tell me that Rockefeller Center is no longer for ice skating, Christmas Trees, and the Today Show.

hb, that's the power of truth!

but i agree with the OP, this sucks. i hate doormen, have only had them once (in Tokyo), but if you're paying for their services you should damned well get them.

Services in Japan are significantly superior to those here. As great as they can be here, it's not cultural and automatic, or it hasn't been for 40 years.

Hi 300_mercer ... just keep taking it back to the dealer for warrantied repairs, and demand an AMG as a loaner. But first get the signatures of your 397 neighbors and fax them to the management office.

You must wait your turn behind the other victims. The first few hundred people on the line are trUth. Then the OP of this thread. Wait. Call 311 and email HPD and send telexes to the management company. Follow short, clipped-sounding, curt commands that make no sense whatsoever. Especially when they come to you from ETs via a medium wearing a tin-foil hat.

both alkiealanhart and alkieaboutready, disrupting this discussion with their drunken comments.

The OP doesn't need to get every resident's signature for his letter. Only those many people described as being annoyed.

another discussion disrupted by drunken alkie fools, alanhart and aboutready.

alanhart still uses a "telex'?!

aboutready says she bought in a building without amenities and no doorman.

That's O.K. because her teenage daughter doesn't need to go out bar-hopping -- there's plenty of alkie beverages for her at home.
Her teenage daughter doesn't need to go out bed-hopping because she's getting the "homeless black kid" to screw her, right there at home.

>aboutready says she bought in a building without amenities and no doorman.

Truth, none of us actually believed that. No reason to dwell on what's obvious.
There are no buildings recently built, with a tax abatement, that would be without a doorman.
No judment, just reality.

>Her teenage daughter doesn't need to go out bed-hopping because she's getting the "homeless black kid" to screw her, right there at home.

Alright, even if true, it's all an under age discussion, not appropriate for here.

Not "appropriate" for aboutready to discuss on se but that doesn't stop her.

What is "truth"'s problem? I've seen other nasty posts from her, always obsessed with alcohol. I can just see her writing all these vicious comments with a bottle of cheap gin at her side. I don't think anyone could care less about anything she says because it's always vile and vitreolic. Maybe she should go to an AA meeting instead of wasting the time of people who would actually like to connect with others interested in this otherwise wonderful site................

There are a couple of posters on Easy Street that seem to bring out the worst and revel in that fact.

She's a skank.

There's that, plus the simple fact that when aboutready and alanhart were greyed out and thus stopped posting for several months, trUth made so many vitriolic, crazy posts, and specifically such a ceaseless stream of obsessive and venomous posts about aboutready and alanhart, that she herself wound up greyed out -- with literally no back-and-forth from aboutready and alanhart.

trUth brings out the worst in herself -- that's a fact, Jack.

The proof is in the pudding, and the pudding is in the mix.

Even she realizes she's way overdue for complete removal from SE, and she said so yesterday.

Hence why 80-90% of the posts on this thread are greyed out.
