Carroll Gardens, 204 Huntington Area

I haven't walked top the Smith stop at night, but it does feel a SLIGHT little indusrtial/gritty especially with what I imagine to be an abandoned Lowe's parking lot at night. Have you checked it out at night? Do it and see if you're comfortable. Then who cares what others say as long as you saw for yourself. Carroll Gardens in general is a nice area though.

I looked at that building a few years back because I thought that for the price, neighborhood and amenities it was a decent amount for the money. You are definitely on the edge of Carroll Gardens, but you should go by at night and see if you feel safe, Personally while its not jumping over there, you are close enough to a lot of restaurants. Right now the Smith/9th Street station is temporarily closed, but the walk to the next stop is not unbearable. The reason we never went back after our first look was that for the size we wanted the only apartments available were even or below with the train, which gave the apartment a very dark feel. On some more local blogs, there is some consensus, although not among anyone I think that lives there with the condition of the building and the finishes. Probably worth looking at some local blogs like the Brownstoner or Patch to get a better feel. Of course, keep in mind the source and whether or not anyone has any first hand experience.

I live in the center of CG and I wouldn't feel comfortable living down on Huntington. For me, safety is related to how many other people are walking around and that area gets pretty deserted. If I were you I would give up some of the amenities and look more in the heart of CG and if that is cost prohibitive then look in the Columbia St area which is on the other side of the BQE but a 10 min walk to the shopping and restaurants on Court and Smith St. Otherwise, I would suggest looking in the Beorum Hill area which is close to CG but a little cheaper than CG and Cobble Hill. Also, the blocks east of Smith St in CG will probably be a little cheaper than CG proper.

until a few yrs ago, that area was called Red Hook. because that is next to the stop where most of the people from the projects in Red Hook use, it is not the optimal place. 10 yrs ago, i would be a lot more concerned than i would be now.
