On Sept 11 2011, The Levon Helm Band performed a concert for some of the 9/11 victims' family members.
On Sept 11 2012, The "Love For Levon" upcoming concert is mentioned in Cindy Adams' column.
Many of the family members and survivors of the attack have been invited and will attend the concert.

That song will not be performed at the concert walpurgis.

I reassure her that I will never forget him and I try to ease her pain. That is how I have marked, am marking, and will mark this anniversary as long as we both are living.

NYRENewbie: The one 9/11 widow I met (fireman's wife in Montauk), just before 9/11/2006, told me she was sick of 9/11 memorials and happy to get on with her life. As she put it, it took her four years to get through high school, and then she was done; four years for her to complete college, and then done; and four years of grieving over her husband and listening to everyone else and the public do so -- and she was DONE! Maybe your friend is the same way, maybe not, but I suggest you feel her out on it very carefully.

each Sept 11th, when I see the beams of light rising in the sky, I remember that morning. I was on the terrace,having morning coffee, looking at the towers, saw flames coming from what seemed to be windows, but larger slashes. Wasn't on the news at first - took some time to actually know what was happening. With all the smoke, didn't comprehend that the building wasn't there anymore, just thought the smoke was obscuring everything. I was "lucky" in that I didn't know anyone who perished there.

And just a little later, a very very good friend in Chicago gave birth to her first child. So, for me, possibly selfishly, there was a little bit of joy in that day. He just celebrated his 11th birthday today.

a good friend of mine's birthday is today. her husband was supposed to be on one of the 9/11 flights that day, but at the last minute elected to stay home to celebrate with her. another friend's aunt's office was on a floor directly hit by one of the planes but she was traveling on business that day.

so for me too, their is both sadness and not related to this day.

I'm so sorry. You lost people you loved? How horrific. And so many people did. I knew many people who lost loved ones, but I was lucky in that I didn't actually have anyone I care for die.

We lived on west 23rd street at the time, and it was the route to chelsea piers where they had set up command. we had uniformed soldiers with guns on our street corners every day, and helicopters overhead (and that stupid asshole bush announcing to the world what level of alert we were at). Our daughter, five, went out one day, probably October, saw a soldier and just started crying.
