Discussion about
I wanted to ask how much a fair price for four custom radiator covers would be for a manhattan apt. We are currently working with a contractor whose cabinet guy said it would cost $6500 to do four covers. The covers are wall to wall with cabinet storage and only painted. No marble countertops. Also, one of the covers is just a plain cover with no shelves or storage and low down to floor bc it accompanies window of balcony.
lol insane. Go check out TransformHome.com , they have custom covers.
to think in some countries they build entire houses for $6500
Ageller,
I know I will get posts thinking I am crazy but $6,500 for 4 cover wall to wall is very inexpensive. I do not know what finish is being used but just for example, if you build a custom cover that is 10 feet long with storage there are some millshops that would charge $6,500 for one, thats right one unit. The one I use would probably be around $3,600 for one.
If it is made just to be painted on site then it would be cheaper but to me that is a very fair price
call little wolf cabinet shop--they will charge you a fair price, and their work is clean and good
too many variables to assess you situation
Ageller,
Little Wolf is great but they do not finish, they build cabinets and install, you then have them painted onsite. They are still very nice but it depends on what you want them to look like.
Primer is correct. If you're talking ONLY radiator cover boxes then yes, your quote would be insane. However, for wall-to-wall custom built-ins that also happen to be radiator covers? Your quote makes sense. Could you get it cheaper? Probably, but don't expect to see a major discount from where you are now.
Ageller, how did those radiator covers work out for you? Are you happy with the result? Could you share the contractor's info? Thanks.
4 for $6500, installed, given your description sounds about right. Estimates I got for 2 wall-to-wall units w/ built-in storage & doors were comparable.
I am also thinking that 6500 for 4 is pretty good at only 1625 each with storage and such. frankly, in this town custom mill-work is really expensive and 1625 to 2000 per primed paint grade convector cover WITHOUT built in storage or marble top or fancy brass/chrome/nickel grill is kind of average.
I still maintain that it is very inexpensive. What kind of finish was used ? I am guessing it isn't sprayed lacquer. One radiator cover that is with a sprayed lacquer finish could cost around $4,500.00. It generally would cost around $1,500.00 for a sprayed lacquer unit with no storage.
A cabinet maker quoted me $6500 for one wall-to-wall radiator cover with two storage at each end with doors and with two upper bookshelf units on each side of the window - in traditional finish with moldings and solid maple wood, painted and installed. How does that sound?
That sounds good, are you sure it is solid maple?
