Noise Versus Rights to (Ab)Use Shared Space

Is this in Columbia County, or New York County? Generally in New York County, there's a bit of noise, it's not just quiet grumpy old men and their deer companion.

I'd get the roof rules from five similar buildings and present them to the Board as examples of the range of "normal" that is used to govern roof decks.

if there was alot of broken glass beer bottles on the rooftop, kids probably wouldn't be riding their scooters. :)

basically NYers can make as much noise as they want between 8am and 10pm. The law is written to protect trumpet players who have a right to practice their craft in their own home.

alanhart - that's an interesting idea I hadn't considered. It's worth looking into. Any idea how I would get ahold of the rules other than reaching out the boards?

Snuffles - I have to say the thought of creating an inhospitable runway for the little tykes did cross my mind..... This is one of those areas, that the board refuses to get specific. It's bizarre to me that they would permit it, but they do. They are a "family friendly" board.

Jazzman - any bias there in your trumpet comment? Then there's always the police and "disturbing the peace" route....

Sorry I missed this last post. For the record, the board did FINALLY beef up the roof rules and communicate them - they've generally become more active and attentive to enforcement as well. I can't say I've ever had a problem with the super being responsive, though, and don't think he supports other buildings (but could be wrong).

Thank goodness things are back to normal in C0lumbia C0unty, or New York County, or wherever this is.
