Discussion about District at 111 Fulton Street in Fulton/Seaport
Hi All - Curious to get your thoughts. I live in the building and know that several tenants who live below the roof deck (me included) hear a lot of noise coming through the ceilings (not ambient or through windows). The board won't spend the time and money to investigate whether there might be a structural issue. Although they've taken some measures, they refuse to put in place better rules to limit the noise making. Seemingly, they think it's more important to let kids ride scooters on the decking than to support our right to live in comfort. What would you do?

Is this in Columbia County, or New York County? Generally in New York County, there's a bit of noise, it's not just quiet grumpy old men and their deer companion.
I'd get the roof rules from five similar buildings and present them to the Board as examples of the range of "normal" that is used to govern roof decks.
Although I can't imagine anyone's thought about scooters on the roof. Except me: http://tinyurl.com/8t7mfvt
alan, how would you decide that something is a "similar building"?
if there was alot of broken glass beer bottles on the rooftop, kids probably wouldn't be riding their scooters. :)
basically NYers can make as much noise as they want between 8am and 10pm. The law is written to protect trumpet players who have a right to practice their craft in their own home.
alanhart - that's an interesting idea I hadn't considered. It's worth looking into. Any idea how I would get ahold of the rules other than reaching out the boards?
Snuffles - I have to say the thought of creating an inhospitable runway for the little tykes did cross my mind..... This is one of those areas, that the board refuses to get specific. It's bizarre to me that they would permit it, but they do. They are a "family friendly" board.
Jazzman - any bias there in your trumpet comment? Then there's always the police and "disturbing the peace" route....
jim: bramstar's nephews ride their scooters on her terrace.
She posted a comment on se asking for advice on what/how to install flooring material to block the noise.
I suggested astroturf.
P.S. : has the management company secured the roof-deck as a precaution for the hurricane?
Go take a look.
First things, first.
>if there was alot of broken glass beer bottles on the rooftop, kids probably wouldn't be riding their scooters. :)
Snuffles doesn't seem to huggable anymore.
huntersburg: LOL!
the board lets other things slip by like super can never be found in the building (I've heard that he manages another building in midtown)
Sorry I missed this last post. For the record, the board did FINALLY beef up the roof rules and communicate them - they've generally become more active and attentive to enforcement as well. I can't say I've ever had a problem with the super being responsive, though, and don't think he supports other buildings (but could be wrong).
Thank goodness things are back to normal in C0lumbia C0unty, or New York County, or wherever this is.
what does that mean?
Who cares? The rantings of an imbecile. Although hb is not as impaired as trUth and secondtiimeisnotanimprovement.
>Who cares? The rantings of an imbecile
a little conflict between AR and C0C0?
No.
>No.
So you two are on the same page?
Get a life. Seriously.
>Get a life. Seriously.
I can drive and ride a bike.
That's not a life, as is so evident by your posting.
Then tell me, what does it take? What makes you successful?
I love the hide feature.
